At what point of a rumour do you qualify to "be in the know" ? Tribal football aside - do i qualify as being in the know if i read a random rumor on NewsNow/HullCity ? It seems people only "knew" it was going to happen once the story has broken and when the story breaks down again , they knew that too !
You are not "in the know" if you read it on a website or newspaper or fan mag. You are "in the Know" if someones dad, who knows someone elses dad who has a mate who bumps into "football people" in a pub/golf course/car park and tells them some tasty titbit. Or ditto if you know someone at the club who is "in the know"
I'm never one for usually being a member of the grammar police but... Did make me chuckle. Is a nipple classified as a tasty titbit?
I used to know a fair bit of insider knowledge when I was based in Hull, but I now have, rather ironicly, an inside connection to Leicester City which is extremley reliable. That doesn't help Hull City, but I've met a fair few players and staff there and they're generally alright. Their scouting network, unsurprisingly, is very intricate. They have people posted all over the region looking at youth leagues, 5 a side leagues etc, but their designated scouts, the ones that work for Walsh are posted as far out as the US and Canada. He's also helping me sort out some scouting work, as it's something I've always been interested in and I do have a good eye for a player.
No, I can't give you his name, but he's a regular in my pub and a really nice chap. The players say he is best known for filling his pockets with food from the cafeteria. They can't be paying him enough.....
Haha no he isn't a player. And no, I'm not in cahoots with anybody at LCFC. Although having said that, it's enormously enjoyable to tell him of our youth prospects and our Manchester United trainees that we got for cheap, that they have absolutley no chance of buying. I do have a few names for HCAFC though, but as a previous poster suggested, they don't seem open to suggestions; I myself have tried without much luck. No harm in trying/looking though. Busy weekend, in South Lanarkshire Friday night to watch a very, very talented young defender (he's 16 and is already in the first team), then it's down to the KC to watch us play P'Boro
If you don't mind me asking which pub do you work at? Judging by your previous comments I'm guessing it's one down Western Boulevard or maybe the Polar Bear?
I did work at the Polar Bear when I was at uni, not a bad little pub and it was where I watched us beat Arsenal, so fond memories. Unfortunatley my bosses have told me not to post where I work, knowing full well that we are a LCFC pub they feel I am being disloyal. However, come March 24th, if you would like to come down to the pub, which is located on Western Road (about 2 minutes from the ground) we are open to away fans and there is never any bother there, the locals are all friendly =]
Well you've just told me where it is then because to my knowledge there's only one pub on Western Road unless it's that bar on the corner of brauny gate in which case it's a little further than 2 minutes walk! I quite like the polar bear although havent been there for years now, decent for cheap shots and student girls, chances are you served me in there at some point then!
Well maybe this will change now that Nick Barmby is in charge. You could always try and make contact with George Foster Citys new head scout ? Afterall, both can only say no to you again. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
