We all know know that in the eyes of many of our domestic rivals we've developed an unflattering image as a selling club. It started off with the European giants like Barca buying our legends (Petit, Overmars, Henry, Fabregas etc). The last few years with the arrival of oil money in the northwest domestic clubs started to do the same....this has really emasculated the brand image of our great club....things reached their zenith last year with RvP (please god not Fabregas aswell) It is because of the above I think wrestling a star player from our domestic rivals will have an impact greater than just benefiting from the skill of that player....it will undo some of the damage caused by the above. People sometimes call this "a statement of intent" but I think it's more than that....it's proving that this club has the ambition and might to wrestle a top player from a rival. Excluding footballing /financial factors...the above is a clear advantage of purchasing Suarez rather than Higuain. Latter seen as surplus to requirement and former being the main man and linchpin of a big domestic rival. Bring the might back into the badge. Ps I know there are other image factors associated with Suarez but just ignoring this to illustrate above point
Suarez would be the ideal transfer from my point of view, and if we only signed him I would deem it a successful transfer window. The only worry is this whole release clause, liverpool seem adamant that it is not a release clause, but his agent disagrees. I really don't see the point of a clause where the club has to inform the player a bid has been made, complete worthless and no point in it what so ever. Either his agent has ****ed up when drawing up the contract and got duped into believing the clause was a release clause or vise verca, I think we should just offer 40 million and see what happens. It is about 10 million more than he is worth but sometime you just have to accept that and pay it like city, Chelsea and man u have done regularly before. If it is not a release clause then its a dead duck as we are not paying more than 40 million. The only saving grace might be that suarez might go on strike or just not turn up for training and they may think it's better to take the money and run.
