Rafa will stay (hope he does tho) but why should/will it take a couple of weeks to sort out.. All he needs to say is I want/need this and our outstanding "football" board can say yes you can have it or not..... I know things aren't that black and white but they should be
Nah, he needs to know that if he wants to keep someone like Mbemba or Mitrovic or Perez that he will get the money to do so. He also needs contracted statements about his reach and what he is ultimately responsible for, he needs the staff untouched, he needs investment elsewhere, and so on. He will need all this in writing and legally approved. This all takes time. It's in Ashley's hands, and I personally think he'll go with it.
This isn't going to happen overnight, and both sides probably have an end date for when it needs to be sorted one way or another. If he stays, more than anything, he will want control over the whole playing structure and transfers. There will be players he will want to retain or not as the case may be, and it wont necessarily be those swearing allegiance the last couple of days. He's already sussed out he can trust amongst the current players, those who he would be able to rely on and any that have fragile temperaments like Mitrovic. Personally, under him I cant see more than 5 or 6 of yesterdays starting line up being first choice next season. I'm convinced he'll stay, otherwise, he'd already have gone.
Some of it is probably Rafa saying to the football world "You've got two weeks to make me an offer" so that he knows what his choices are.
Surely Ashley realises that giving Rafa what he wants is a sure fire way to guarantee reasonable season tickets sales and match day gate receipts. If Rafa walks away I think we'll be lucky to get 30,000 every home. From what Rafa's said in the past week if he walks away we will all know why and an untold amount of hatred will most certainly find its way towards the eyes and ears of the powers that be
