.................... Hughton was to be offered the Ireland job,

    http://www.independent.ie/sport/soc...to-take-over-if-trap-goes-brady-29108581.html

    1. Would he accept it ?

    2. If he did, would you really be that upset ?

Personally I wouldn't really be that bothered, I have to admit that I don't like his negative style of football effective or not.
Also the way that he always seems to 'big up' the opposition as if to make an excuse for a poor result before it happens irks me too.

    I await the flak <whistle>

I dont feel Hughton is 'biggimg up' every team. Wasn't Lambert similar in a way KIO? He gave very similar answers about every team.

I am not going to argue based on what we have seen so far.

I would maybe wonder that IF he stayed (on the assumption he left), how would things change (if at all)?
Can he be less negative once he has his squad? Only one way to find out and that is to keep hold of him.

I agree with KIO, I think he does "big em up" much more but would also say he praises the team far less than PL did. Now neither of those statements might actually be true and maybe it is in the presentation by CH that gives a very different spin.

Well I hope that I'm proved wrong but regardless of the playing personell next season, I can't see CH changing his style. I would therefore argue that I'm not being negative but I am being realistic <ok>

The thing is KIO we are punching above our weight this season and will continue to do so because of the financial situation. We will never compete with the big teams consistently and so we will always be up against it, hence the tactics are in many ways the only way we can try and survive. Would you rather be a smaller fish in the big pond or the other thing? that is the fundamental question IMO. He wouldn't take the Ireland job though answering your other question.

two points (because frankly i'm stunned at the attitude of some of our fans and its a major reason why i can't be arsed with these forums anymore):

    1. hughton is doing a bloody brilliant job this season. we sit 13th, 8 points clear of the drop with just 10 games remaining. we have an opportunity in the next three or four weeks to not only reach safety but elevate ourselves comfortably into the top half of the division. he has taken on a ridiculously challenging job with Norwich, one where a truly great manager had performed miracles and undoubtedly lifted our club to a position which was above a number of the players capabilities. the media had us down as shoe-ins for relegation this year. many of our fans did too! however, he has moved many of these 'lesser' players on, brought in a better standard of player despite a small budget relatively speaking. he has completely transformed our defence from the flimsy one last season to one which has shown numerous glimpses of being a tight one in seasons to come. this despite losing the england number two (could have been number one by now) and the only games we've truly flopped in have been ones where our defence has been stretched by injuries/suspensions (this is understandable as we still have weaknesses outside the first eleven). he has made us far harder to beat - this is what any good manager does first. he has maintained a more calm team selection, something people moaned about last year. seriously, he has done a good a job and how about what he could do with us with a bit more money and a good defensive base to build upon? that, to me, is bloody exciting.

    2. who the flaming heck do you think should be in charge?!?! honestly, some of our fans need a bloody reality check. we are having a very good season and although we have no way of proving it, i'd guess we'd be much closer to the drop zone had lambert stayed than we are now. in fact, we'd probably be in the bottom three. norwich achieved their highest finish for 20 years last season - we could better that this season. and yet you'd 'let him go' because you got a bit bored in a few games? idiotic to say the least and could be a death knoll to the club. we've actually got a chance to have some stability here!

for my own sanity, can people please take one step back and look at the bigger picture. if hughton left this summer it would be an unmitigated disaster. he's actually building a very good squad at the moment and doing absolutely everything by the book. the next step, this summer, will see him giving attention to the attacking side of the team. so we've had a few dour games... we did last year too. funny how they've all been forgotten about! as for him 'biggin' up' teams, as pointed out, lambert used to do exactly the same thing. he did it last night too. and what does it matter anyway? its what he says to his players on the training field that matter, not the soundbites he offers the press. rather him give credit to our opponents than be like pulis or someone like that who constantly blames the officials or opponents cheating for why his team loses a match.

Couldn't agree more supers. This is a succesful season for NCFC and whilst the playing style isn't one that is normally associated with us and as a consequence the games are less exciting than in the past, we are currently the 13th best team in the country..... and you want to get rid of the guy who has achieved that??? absolute madness! We are steadily bringing in better and better players, building the business up on very sound commercials and consistently over achieveing - these are the solid foundations upon which years of success will be based. This isn't all about short term, single season **** or bust its about building a sustainable and succesful football club over many years and in my opinion anyway this is the best way to do it.

the reason hughton was brought in in the first place (other than being a talented manager) is that he offers the club stability! anyone who wants rid or has even considered it needs to think long and hard about what would happen if he left. the fact nobody (other than us fans ourselves) are considering us as realistic contenders for the drop right now is down to hughton keeping up lambert's good work in making us a good, mid-table premier league side.

No one has said they want him gone so little point in bringing that in to the equation.

The question was would you be upset if he left to take the ROI job, which obviously you would be. That's not to say everyone thinks the same as I suspect many people are angry with performances (especially away), although they appear to be enough to survive this season, and based on that I would suspect quite a few would not be that upset.

Without going over old ground, as this has been done several times in recent weeks, it's not pretty and not everyone is happy and if you are frustrated by that then it's hard luck because they are not going to change until the performances do. That's their choice and they are free to express their opinion. <ok>

I have not said I want to see him go but if he did I wouldn't get my knickers in a twist over it as there is sod all I can do about it.

Or could it be that if anybody disagrees with your opinion you can't be arsed ? This is a football forum and everyone is entitled to their opinion. What I do know is that if CH were to move on it wouldn't be the end of the world that's all I'm saying.

Lambert was a fantastic manager who overachieved mightily for us. He was always going to be a hard act to follow. But I thought towards the end of last season he was being worked out by the rest of the Premier league and I think that this season we might well have struggled had he stayed. Hughton has improved the squad, kept us up and I think next year, when he has more funds available, we will continue to improve.

I think Supers is right, you have to look at the bigger picture.

    - He's made an attacking squad solid at the back, with reinforcements I think they're will be a lot less drubbing next year, but the fact we have a lot more clean sheets is a very good sign. He's made impeccable signings on a tight budget, credit to Ewan Chester as well

    - We're 13th at the moment

    - Next year, hopefully he will have more money to bring in some attacking players, Ferguson always built from the back, it just requires a bit of patience from the fans.

    - The negative is they're has been a few boring games, but overall we've had some of our best wins this year. Turning over United and Arsenal for example and the Everton game was boring. Besides I would take 38 boring games if it meant we were to stay up.

Overall I would be upset if he left, because I think he can built a top team here, given time.

I've made similar comments on threads in the past few months and yes, if you look at our record in the last 12 or so games last season, it was pretty bad and we only picked up about 8 points (3 against a very dispirited Villa side!!). I'm not keen on the 'brand'of football that's currently on offer, but if it keeps us in the Premier League for another season and CH is then able to add at least 1 decent striker and someone in midfield who can actually pass the ball and find their intended target, we could be in the PL for a few more years.

We also have to hope that our new 'Academy' status will help us to unearth a Walcott, Bale, Oxlade-Chamberlain or whoever; who if my memory serves me right, are all products of the Southampton Academy.

clearly not the end of the world, but there are some on here who seem to think they have a god-given right to watch 'beautiful football'. the last norwich manager to consistently play 'beautiful football' was dave stringer. others since have dabbled with it, with more success than others, but ultimately for a club like norwich, especially in our current state, you do whatever it takes to stay up. and i think you know me well enough to know that i will always argue my case if someone disagrees. i've bailed out for reasons outside football but also because i got bored of contributing. i just can't believe the short-termism being displayed by a number of our fans. it is quite alarming and doesn't bode well for when things go wrong (which eventually they will - they always do at every club) seeing as things are actually very good right now.

have some patience! i dread to think how many times i've said that bloody word!!

100% agree. I just don't know what Hughton's done wrong this season.

And I'll also add that in our last three home games against Spurs, Fulham and Everton, we only played bad football against Fulham.

We were excellent against Spurs in the first half before they over-rode us, as expected, looking for a winner in the second half. We were forced to play haphazardly by our opponents but it wasn't the plan.

And against Everton we tried to move the ball around but it was clear that we needed a bit more in order to stop Everton, and Fellaini, running the game. Hughton brought on Kamara, and I dare one person to say they didn't enjoy the match from that point onwards.
