So I know this is about the 74th Redknapp article but I thought "f*ck it, lets do another!" Anyway, question is, short and sweet - If you were 'Arry, would you take the England job? Whether it be now, or at the end of the season? Personally if I were 'Arry, I don't think I would. England managers seem to tarnish their reputations in football after taking what I class as the posioned chalice. When appointed, expectations are high, the manager usually comes in from the back of something impressive and everyone thinks "this is the year for England!", a year or so later, England were embarrassed and our overpaid primadonas yet again failed their nation. The manager is sacked/ resigns and things never seem the same for them again. Now for me, being a Spurs fan makes it hard to sound unbiased here but I generally think if I were 'Arry in charge of this team, I'd find it extremely difficult to leave, especially knowing damn well that the reason they're where they are, is pretty much because of me. Adored by the fans, playing the best football in the country, knowing that continuing at the rate they're going legendary status awaits and POTENTIALLY be regarded as the clubs best manager in history, why on earth would I leave for something that quite frankly is more than likely to end in disappointment? Can appreciate it must be a extremely tough decision, especially if Tottenham isn't in your blood but is the England job really worth leaving for these days?
SOS I would - but the proviso would be that I get to pick whomever I wanted. No interference from club managers- the best that is available or the deal is off.
Fair play Perryman, what would your first XI be at the Euro's? Think I'd go for: Hart, Walker, Terry, Lescott, Cole Sturridge, Gerrard, Parker, Young Defoe, Welbeck (until Rooney can play) Would have King if fit instead of Terry. Sturridge might be bit of a risk but been impressed with him this season when he cuts in from the right, him and Welbeck can rotate with striker/ winger roles.
I would touch the England job witha barge pole. If England do well in qualifying then the hype is massive...if it goes wrong the abuse is so personal. We have too many over hyped players .. Way too many egos ....and no where near enough talent.
If I wasn't a Spurs fan, they were offering me more money and I knew I probably only had 2 or 3 years left in football - yes. Fortunately I think 'Arry's more loyal than me. Knows which side his bread's buttered and all that.
SOS- can't argue with that line up simply because that's the best there is at the moment. Although I thought Johnson went ok at LB against us. What has happened to Crouch he has a great record at that level. Be a great impact off the bench.A fit Azza would be in my team or at least on the bench.
Don't like Johnson much, never really been a fan, did have a good game LB against us the other night admittedly but for back up to Cole, I'd have Baines. Crouch's England record speaks for itself, would probably take him as 4th choice striker. Would definitely take Lennon to the Euro's, think he'd better from the bench though, in all fairness he's never really done the business for England but then not many have.
Who do I rate as the best football Managers in England of all time; Clough Shankley Bill Nich SAF Busby All club managers none of whom became the England manager. Harry has a chance to join that group if he stays at Spurs.
You can't play Sturridge as a winger (Chelsea don't). He can play as a wide forward - more outside right, than right wing - in a 3 man attack, but in a 4-4-2, then Lennon, Young or Johnson for me.
If we're going to play the Pick And England Team Game... First XI Hart Walker Cahill Jones Cole Lennon Wilshere Parker Milner Rooney Sturridge Squad Carson, Loach Baines, Dawson, Jagielka, Smalling Oxlade-Chamberlain, Barry, Gerrard, Etherington Crouch, Ashley Young Yes, I'd would honestly take Matthew Etherington over the likes of Stewart Downing or Joe Cole.
Cheers In all seriousness I think that could actually work. Maybe a little weak defensively but on the attack front, good pace with Young behind the front 3, Gerrard threading passes and Parker cleaning up.
My England Squad: Hart Walker Cahill Jones Cole Lennon Gerrard Parker A.Johnson Rooney Sturridge Squad Ruddy, Foster. Baines, Richards, Dawson, Smalling A.Young, Milner, Barry, Wilshere, Holt, Bent.
