No but I was when he took us down with 1 win in 14 games or something close. Us going up had more to do with the Bristol Citys managers stupid comments and subsequent collapse when they were miles ahead of us than us being that great.
It's easy to play a "what-if" game and wonder what would have happened had Holloway been given a budget. He's clearly proven to be a very good manager at CCC level. That said, as has been posted already, his time outside the game changed him a lot, so I doubt it would have been rosy as it's tempting to think it might have been.
What I remember thinking was that Holloway, while arresting our slide down the table brilliantly, never quite had what it took to get us out of that division. He's obviously learnt a lot in those years because now he's never out of the playoffs. As for the footy, it wasn't great but nothing new there. Do i want him back? No....not yet.
I struggle to remember too many historic games any worse that the ****e I've sufferred watching this season. None of the old games had players earning a fraction of what this years "stars" have been paid.
JUST REALISED, that means Gabbadon and Ramage are premiership players...along with people like Routledge and Connolley and Tommy Smith (and of course Heidi if he hadn't retired). What a team we gave away
To be fair, seldom has the quality of our football been two or three ratchets above bollocks this season...
You can add Delaney to that list, but how many of those would you actually want back? I love Tommy Smith, but would he have got a match? I had no problems with Routledge going and freely admit to being wrong about him, but of the rest I wouldn't want to see them at Loftus Road based on what we saw of them. Other managers seem to have been able to get far more out of them than any of ours did. Is this the Loftus Road curse again?
I'm with you on this, the mans a legend in my eye. Love him to bits, he even paid for the odd away team meal out of his own pocket when things were bad. I think he could turn us a round but very unlikely move.
Ollie was one of the managers i mentioned a while ago in a thread about getting one of our own in. His football style has changed completely from when he was in charge of us. Esp for some out there, I think he would have been the perfect manager for Adel. Based his getting the best out of players. Not sure if he's a good prem manager yet, but his Blackpool side looked 10 timess better than we have over the past 2 seasons. TBH..We could dow worse, but why would he come now. Well done to him & good luck in the Prem.
Didn't Mike Rigg or someone else in the club under Hughes boast that none of the players they got rid of were in the Prem? Half the squad is now.
We had more money than most of the division. We were expected to go up and were very lucky that city imploded. You can only compare the spending against the divisional opponents.
Slightly hijacking the thread but if you've not seen this, it is well worth a view and hopefully will make you chuckle. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22707916
I've seen most of them before but the 'bird in the taxi' still makes me lol each time. Quality character with great family values too.
