Apologies if this has been covered already but the more I think about it the more it seems to make sense. Would be difficult to prise him apart and he may not even want it but what do you think about appointing him as the next manager?

He would keep a little continuity going from all things good last season but will offer some hopefully fresh ideas as well. Players seem to respect him and clearly very bright. Whether he can manage is a different story but I think he might be worth the gamble.

I'd have him for sure, was this one too many moves for him? If he has the ambitions Lambert has maybe he has the ability to breakaway from his shaddow and give it a go at a club.

Good man, understands norwich and would do a great job. But will probably follow lambert unfortunately. Sticks a bit doesn't it.

I've said all along that he should be given a shot. There is more to his locker than just being an excellent coach, although I accept that he will more than likely move on.

Would piss off Lambert that's for sure. Could be a good move he seems to have more of a personality then Lambert, so could be the one who communicated with the players more.

Well he has certainly been a fantastic assistant but as we know often that does not make a good manager. But he has certainly been credit with many of the tactics and substitutions we employ, however none of us know what he would be like at the rest. If Mcnally thought he was the right man I would be more than happy with the choice.

Alan Thompson has apparently been sacked by Celtic rumoured to be joining Lambert at Villa as his assistant.

"Celtic first team coach Alan Thompson has parted company with the club, BBC Scotland has learned.

Thompson was appointed by Neil Lennon in June 2010 alongside assistant manager Johan Mjallby following the sacking of Tony Mowbray.

The Englishman previously won four Scottish Premier League titles as a player with Celtic between 2000-07.

He was also was capped once for England and featured in Celtic's run to the Uefa Cup final against Porto in 2003."

He played for Villa for a couple of years and was a team mate of Lambert at Celtic so there could be some truth in the rumours

this would actually be hilarious. i've spoken with culverhouse and one of his friends in the early spring this year and a number of times before that. last time there was literally no way he would not have followed lambert wherever he went - he said as much. the respect he had for lambert was amazing. it would be great if they have fallen out over this move somehow and ian stays. i still think it unlikely after hearing what i did but lambert would be nowhere near as strong a manager without him - he really is the brains behind the lambert regime - lambert is the man-manager and motivator. i'll happily admit that i judged it wrong if he stays as everything, and i really do mean everything, pointed to him joining our former manager at villa park :D

Judging by the interview McNally gave the EDP, Culverhouse won't be in the running as he doesn't have relevant experience

If Culverhouse was the tactical brains, keeping him and bringing in someone else as well could be really helpful, we'd get both continuity and fresh ideas. I still think he'll go though to be honest.

I wonder, if Villa aren't keen to splash out the compensation whether they will be not very interested in taking Culverhouse and Karsa. They'd be expensive additions as they'd need buying out of their contracts and for these Norwich DEFINITELY would receive compensation. I notice that Liverpool have now spent around £7m to get Rodgers and the rest of his team...

If that's the case, we may be left with Culverhouse and Karsa by default. Sounds like that would be no bad thing!

I suppose it also depends on the contracts the pair of them are on. If Lambert had a clause saying that he could speak to Prem. clubs, they might have one saying they can leave if Lambert leaves.

That would be a very strange contract term to have (I won't go into the detail of that, but it runs the risk of real uncertainty about their jobs if, for example, Lambert was to become unwell and have to resign. I'm not saying it wouldn't exist, but I've never heard of anything like that in an employment contract).

It would be much more likely that they would rely on Lambert to demand they go with him- hence the reason Rodgers got his team to Liverpool and they've had to pay extra. Wasn't Hughton excluded from the West Brom job because they wouldn't take his staff on as well?

Fair enough, I hadn't thought of it like that. Whatever happens, McNally is fighting our corner and will drive a hard deal.

Culverhouse is an ex player so there is the loyalty thing. It would be great news if he stayed.

this also brings up the possibility of a falling out between lambert and culverhouse/karsa. if so, is this part of the reason holt wants out? holt has definitely had issues with culverhouse before - nothing serious i don't think, but its yet another little thing that makes you wonder!
