I'm sure a lot of you have noticed that i have never been a big fan of MM and his style of play, and have been rather negative towards the team and their chances this season. But, as the title of this thread says, i will be eating my humble pie, as i have been proved wrong this season. Looking back over the last 18 months, i never thought we were capable of being in this position. The team/squad looked dreary, boring, tired and lacking any real quality. It seemed as though we never had any youngsters coming through, except for the bandwagon that was Marriott (and look whats happened to him!!) but we now we have the likes of Teddy and Mings who have progressed and belied most of our expectations. Admittedly, the team still has a way to go to be playing like the traditional Ipswich of old (is there such a thing as the Ipswich way??), but the progress the team has made in the lst few months is astronomical, and i take my hat off to every memeber of staff that has worked their butts off to get us into this position - and not just league position, but to bring the feel good factor back. You only have to look at the attendances to see that this club is moving forward in the right direction (i think our last 3 home games have been 21k+ attendance - when was the last time that happened??) So, to sum up, even if we don't make it this year (i will be absolutely gutted if we don't make the play offs) i'd like to say a big thanks to all at Ipswich Town FC for making me, and may others, enjoy their football again. Fair play to you! I was so happy when we signed McCarthy two years ago. At this level he's such a switched on manager. Sorted the defence, got rid of 10000 loanees, made us hard to beat, giving youth a chance, got a goalscoring partnership with sod all transfer budger ( yes fine £400,000 or so went to agents........ )
Great post Stretchy and it's good to see that you are at last warming to Mick and his methods. He is absolutely the right man to take us up and there will be many teams out there wondering why they didn't snap him up after he left Wolves! Christmas rep on its way to you mate.
I think the style of play is improving certainly. I'd love us to do traiangles, like the Royle footy which was a joy to watch and similar to Bournemouth this season. However, more direct footy CAN work and we certainly play to our strengths well. We're starting to zip it about more too which is pleasing. Good side this!
Well Played Stretchy! We all make wrong calls and I know I got Skuse poorly labelled, and nice to put ones hand up. At least, the jury is out on him....! If I knew how to give you one, a rep I mean, I would! The Big issue remains, that if...a big IF....we do go up in our wildest East Anglian dreams, will ME support MM with the serious funds needed to compete at the next level. But let's be patient and see where we are come March...April.

Mick was the best possible appointment for us at that time and yes not everyones cup of tea but he knows the league well,how to get out of it and how to keep a team in the prem on a budget. Should we get to the prem hopefully mr evans will dip into his pockets a little so we can at least challenge for 4th bottom and then reinvest the riches season on season. but as gaffer rightly says its an if. but what he has done is galvanised us,made us hard to beat to start with and now getting us playing in such a way we don't need to fear anyone in this league. onwards and upwards my fellow townies. Good on ya stretchy You weren't the only one questioning him at the start of the season. His tactic of getting a goal up and then trying to protect it had many of us bitching but thankfully that is in the past now and we are playing with a real swagger. You were not alone Stretchy there were others who felt the same way about MM but Christ he really has worked wonders with this squad of free transfers, boys and the odd loan player, will it be enough to get us promoted? Its too early to say but lets enjoy looking forward to giving it a go in the second half of the season.
