Interesting idea, it seems Yorkshire Water, HCC, ERYCC and the Environment Agency are working together on Hull Water Culture, which includes new waterways, roads being used to store and route rainwater and new water-based urban design.

It's only a concept at the moment, the biggest driver behind Hull Water Culture is flood risk reduction, 'We need to work with flood routes not against them', say Yorkshire Water.

Apparently the new £14m flood prevention scheme at Willerby is working as it's supposed too...

It rarely gets mentioned but apparently one of the biggest contributors to urban flooding is lazy ****s tarmacking / paving over their gardens so they dont have to cut the grass once a week for 5 months of the year.

The increase in paving is certainly an issue, though it's not predominantly down to 'lazy ****s', it's more down to people wanting patios and somewhere to park their car.

If youve got a car, think where you'll park it before you buy your house.

    Done.

People do, they think 'after I've bought this house, I'll put in a drive, then I can park my car'.

We did, in the garden which was to be turned into a drive.

The biggest contributor is not upgrading drains & sewerage systems to accomodate the hundreds of thousands of new builds currently being built.

"and then I'll look for someone to blame when the street floods".

In a serious point, I 100% think the rules should be changed so that planning permission is required for any such works which, in the numbers they have been done over the past decade, have had and will have a far reaching impact on the local and wider geography than any 2-storey extension ever would.

This last few years the cutting season has been March- November.

This year for the first time I cut my lawn in February.

But I'm still a lazy ****, I'll give you that...

Oh do they live on one street no adjoining any others smack bang in the middle of nowhere? Or are they too much of a lazy **** to walk a couple of minutes from a parking space?

If someone wants to turn part of their own land into a driveway they can. It's nothing to do with anyone else or you.

Planning permission for a driveway? Nurse!!!

At the moment you're right, it isnt. But you can guarantee the same people will soon moan when much of the country floods every bloody year.

The fact you think the floods are to do with parking arrangements speaks volumes.
