i'm hoping Elliott is back, pleaseeee, Killkenny in to feed the front players,Anderson deserves a start after his goal and commitment, anybody see him go straight to Delboy when he scored, seems he had a point to make. Skuse did well at right back,if wilson does not get the nod then give him a go there.

    ---------------------------------------------Heaton-----------------------------------------------

    ----wilson/skuse--------------carey----------------Macmanus---------Foster-----

    ---------------Adomah----------Elliott---------Killkenny------------------Anderson------------------

    -----------------------------------Baldock--------------Davies----------------------------------

    Subs

    Stead
    Taylor
    Pitman
    Gerkin
Skuse or Wilson [whichever is not picked]

I have just watched the complete video (transferring it to DVD) of the City win at Liverpool FA Cup replay in 1994.
    The relevance to today's problems?
We had a keeper who came and got crosses, Keith Welch.
We had a standard back four - Llewellyn, Shail (dominating centre half who got everything in the air), Munro, Scott (Hardly any bigger in stature to Joe Bryan!)

Standard two strikers - Wayne Allison, who for all his size and strength never hit any bullet shots or headers that I can remember and Liam Robinson who couldn't hit a barn door from three inches.

But it was the midfield that we had which suddenly hit me as exactly what we want now.
Junior Bent wide on right - fast even if he could not finish especially one on ones. Remind you of someone in todays team?
Two defensive midfielders - Dave Martin and Robbie Edwards.
No left winger; instead Brian Tinnion playing a go anywhere role as the midfield creator.

This formation/shape gave us SIX defensive players making it very difficult for Barnes, Rush, Clough, McMannaman, Walters, Redknapp (not too much quality there) to break us down, one real creator Tinman and three attackers. Martin Scott doubled up Left Back with attacking down the left wing.
Now will someone fit todays City players into that formation and remember that four back four defenders is not enough for us at present. We need six but we have better strikers than those in 1994.

    Foster Wilson McManus Bryan

    Adomah Elliott Pearson Anderson

    ...................Kilkenny
    ....................Davies

think we need to pack the midfield, with the obvious dog ****e we have in midfield and in defence we might aswell try to tighten up

    Heaten

    Foster Mcmanus Wilson Bryan

    adomah pearson skuse elliot anderson

    davies

we HAVE to try something different, we don't have the quality in midfield to play 4-4-2, and especially with two holding midfielders in skuse and morris who are below par. Rather see a boring 0-0 then a high, exciting 5-4 loss

the best attacking midfielders like to pick the ball up deep and really drive at the heart of the oppositions defence, maybe tempted to try adomah behind davies and put anderson on the right woolford left??

    Heaton

    Skuse McManus Wilson Bryan

    Adomah Pearson Kilkenny Elliott Anderson

    Davies

Although if we do go with one upfront I don't see how we're going to score 1/2 goals with a poor midfield, and as we all know Fontaine is still going to be selected, as with Foster at left back with is bonkers

Playing one up front, especially at home, is not the answer.

For once there are plenty of goals in the team, we just need to bloody well stop conceding them and then and only then we'll push on up the league.

Defending starts with the attackers and barring Davies and Stead none of our other attackers or even midfielders for that matter apply pressure on the opposing team in their own half. Small teams like Barcelona, Swansea and Ajax last night constantly run their bollocks off to close down the opposition quickly. We don't! We allow teams to build possession in the full knowledge we have a weak and frail defence. It's wrong! I would put Stead and Davies up front on Saturday is Steady is fit. Our early good results came with him in the team and although he is not on form the work he does off the ball is invaluable and most supporters are too dull to appreciate this.

When Anderson came on he did run his bollocks off, he has to start and I can see him being a star player as he really wants to make a point and keep his place, play him and I bet he will be our best player on the pitch

Matt i suggested Stead against Burnley because he can take the pressure and hold the ball up.I think he would be the best of what we have in holding it up front and bringing others into play.

I agree RR Steady will give 110% for the cause. Let him run his bollocks off for 70 minutes and disrupt Hull's pattern of play and then release Baldock on a tired defence. I see Sammy Baldock as our Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, I think he will be more effective off the bench than starting games.

Just saw Morris on Player, WTF is he doing at Ashton Gate.

Whoever plays this w/e I can't see us winning until Cunningham and Elliott return.

What a bloody state of affairs -12 months on and we have strikers galore but not ONE decent CH.

Actually, our good run came with Taylor in the side, holds the ball up brilliantly but has very little chance of scoring much because our wingers DON'T CROSS THE ****ING BALL

As for playing SB as a sub, no, NO, NO...!

I feel I was perhaps a little bit harsh on our defenders as they are constantly left exposed by our midfield however they still aren't good enough. Our goals conceded tally is testiment to that...
