There have been a number of comments on here concerning the absolute ****eness of the HDM website. I tried to ring them to complain and, picking 'option 6' (= general enquiries) I found myself offered the classified menu. I tried again; same result!

So I rang the NewsDesk and told the young guy who answered that I now had 2 problems - the first was the fact that their website is virtually unreadable, due to pop-ups, etc; and the second being that their 'call-filtering menu' was another bag of ****e.

Anyone concerned/fed up I would encourage to call them/email them and make their lives a ****ing misery, just like they make mine (ours?)

    Rant over.......

As the actual printed version of the HDM is dying on its arse circulation wise they now depend on the website for advertising and the website is appalling.
    Unreadable.
So we have one of the worst website's that I know of and one which I now ignore and a printed version that is full of yesterday mornings news printed in Derby.
So I don't buy that either.
    Shame really.

The odds are more factual than the articles.

I've got Adblock Plus. What I mean is - reading the text and it suddenly drops below your screen. You adjust for it, then it does it again.
Then the sound on the little vid-box (top right). You put the vid on 'pause' and then another ****er starts up, with some racket - and you can't find it in order to stop it......

If you view the site on any iOS device using safari, you can use "reader view" which simplifies the content on the page, and gets rid of the ads.

Right click on the video and add block it. I dont get any videos on there aside from the ones in news articles that I want to see. :)

Are you using Internet Explorer? I think ABP doesn't work quite right in IE. I use it in Chrome ane Firefox and it blocks all the videos and those daft little droppy text things. As someone else said, you can also specify things to block individually but you shouldn't have to do that very often.

I use Firefox and the video always comes up. Whenever I go onto the site I just try to remember to mute my computer ( though as I usually listen to music when on my computer, it is a pain).

Adblock is a gift from God. So happy I found it.

Dunno why you're seeing ads then. I don't see any with Adblock.

I used ABP on Firefox and I still got all the bloody pop-up's on the HDM site(though nowhere else), even removing and reinstalling it didn't work.

I've got a new laptop now and it seems to be working fine.

I haven't seen a single ad on there since I got AdBlock on Chrome.

I'm not sure it's the HDM's fault about their site though, plenty of other regions/cities use the same template and are just as bad, it must be part of some sort of central deal.

I tweeted about how **** it was last year when my ABP wasn't working and they tweeted back to say they agreed and were desperately trying to sort it.
