They’ve been poor this season but still think it’s a bit harsh. Think he has probably taken them as far as he can with what he’s got but I think the sack is quite harsh for him...top bloke.
Disgraceful really - I mean 35 year old Murray as their main striker and Dunk and Duffy who are lower-mid EPL players at best are their stars, Knockeart angling for a move and not been the player he was last year. What is anyone meant to do with that other than stay up? They bought in 15 players in the summer for £77m - average of £5.1m and 7 of them under the age of 21...Another 4 points and they'd be above Burnley in 15th and this would never have happened. Football is so short sighted it's unbelievable. Jankovic at Fulham earlier in the year probably would have kept them up if they'd given him a bit more time and possibly the January window, even Sarri and Mourinho at Chelsea and Man U at the other end of the scale - when you consider how far above the rest Liverpool and City are this year neither have done particularly much wrong but Mourinho was pushed out because his players didn't care and weren't playing and that's why they need a massive clear out and Jose would have been able to bring in bigger names than Ole will in the summer and Sarri could finish 3rd and with a EL trophy and still lose his job. Madness.
Seems harsh. However he is one of many to enter the world of PL russian roulette. Everyone from 10th down can be relegated in any given season such are the fine margins. Spending 40m won't see you make a jump so they like us and many others don't go overboard with spend. We all do just enough to give us a chance of PL survival. After that its down to players and manager, with the manager invariably carrying the can once the relegation happens (most have suffered it at some stage over last 20 years or so). Done a solid job for me. If Rafa has finished 17th I bet plenty would say fair enough. Resources wise since their promotion seasons they probably have similar spend. Rafa walks on water for the same people who take a shot at Hughton. What about if we rename him Hughtinez? Would that be more palatable?
Always comes across like a nice bloke, players and media appear to quite like him. I wonder he'll go next? Big clubs with silly budgets only appear to appoint the same few managers on a merry-go-round, I wonder if international set-up might be more to Hughton's style as per Southgate?
I don't think he is a crap manager. He has done well with Brighton given the size of the club IMO. If Rafa foes (for the record I think he will stay) then we could do a lot worse than him. Couple of Celtic fans think he might do well up there.
Also forgot to mention he got Brighton to the FA Cup Semi Final and lost 1-0 to City FFS! How anyone thinks he's had a bad season is beyond me, a little shaky at the end but still managed to drag themselves clear!
Yep bad ending but they stayed up FFS, which was pretty much his remit, I don't see why 14th or 15th would be a great season for Brighton, but 17th is a disaster. Ok bad run of results, but at least give him 10 games of the new season to see if that changes. Considering what he's done for Brighton, this is very harsh and I hope they go down next season now.
Won 3 of last 23 games. If they leave it to 10 games into next season then 1. He has spent summer transfer money 2. Assuming he is sacked then, the new manager has no money, has to use all CH’s players and Club is off to a bad start Don’t think decision is right but can see why they did it. Also for us to go for CH if Rafa goes then that would be a huge step backwards on so many levels.
