I'd rather have Boyd. We're lacking a left sided player and I don't think CMS is better than what we have up front. He's been the same whenever I've seen him. Didn't see the full game today, but based on what I saw on FLS he had 3 clean shooting opportunities and didn't produce a shot that looked like troubling the keeper. I know 'he' scored one of them, but it was a poor shot that the defender was unfortunate to turn round his own keeper. It wasn't ability that produced the goal and 99 times out of hundred that's blocked properly by the defence. And that performance was against a side who's defence has never impressed me at that level. I remember last season seeing them win 6-0 (Wycombe I think) and coming out of the ground thinking they'd been lucky to win because Wycombe (apart from the finishing) had been cutting through them at will and missing sitters (something their fans agreed with when they played 3 or 4 games against decent sides and their frailty was punished). It's largely the same defence this season, and wtf was going on with that challenge for the freekick? Might as well have stuck a big flashing sign saying "trip over this please" on his foot.
Danny Ward is a very good player, but he's a 19 year old Premier League player(Bolton) who's only on loan at Huddersfield, any offer would have to be a fairly substantial one.
OLM, thought you were harsh on CMS, he forces defenders into making errors, he's quick & a handful and his goal tally speaks for itself, I reckon he'd be fine in the npc, but rumour has it Norwich are after him & the PL could be a bridge too far..
Just been reading some stuff on a Huddersfield forum. Kilbane one of those getting the most stick with some shocking recent performances and desperate he doesn't go back. Not sure where that leaves him and us to be honest.
His goal tally was about the same as Mclean's and wasn't as good as Stuart Elliot's. I don't think he's rubbish, I just don't think he's worth a £2.5m punt. I also think Norwich have far better options open to them at that money(Graham and Morison for instance), along with Boythroyd on a free(though I think he may be on his way to Newcastle or Everton).
Well, it leaves Kilbane with us for another year thanks to a really smart move where he agreed to halve his wages in return of extending his contract by another year. Kilbane has led a charmed life in football imo as he hasn't the faintest idea of what to do with the ball when he gets it and it's anybody's guess where it is going to finish up after he's kicked it. All credit to the guy for achieving over 100 international caps but I doubt he will ever take the field in a Hull City shirt again. Huddersfield, I doubt, will want him next season but he will probably find somewhere to grass out.
That's the second time you've posted that and it's still rubbish. Kilbane's tax saving by spreading his wages over two seasons was tiny in the grand scheme of things, if he'd have taken it all when it was originally due, then he would have paid an extra 10% tax on just over £100k of his total earnings. He's far worse off than he would have been, as he would now have paid slightly more tax, but would now have had all £1.35m and would be free to do any new deal he wanted. He deserves credit for what he did, he did it for us, not for himself, he would definitely be personally better off had he not changed his deal. Edit - Just in the name of accuracy, I've worked out the exact details: £26k p/w for one year gives a post tax income of £687,113.52 for the year. £13k p/w for two years gives a post tax income of £713,706.96 for the two years. The tax saving by spreading the term over two years was therefore a total of £26,593.44. He could have easily earned ten times that amount next season, so I estimate it's cost him at least £200-300k(pre tax).
I started being an accountant when I was 20 but got finished when I was 29 for no apparent reason. What a waste of 14 years that was.
Back to Huddersfield, there's the makings of a competition here. http://downatthemac.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=57904 How do you fold a tee-shirt so that it becomes a dangerous missile?
Makes a change from them attacking ordinary City fans on Walton St car park. Maybe comfy T shirts don't fight back?
I wasn't referring to the money side of the contract 'scoot' but to the fact that he has extended his career by a year. That was a smart move. If he had let his contract ride he would now be out of contract and out of work. He can now 'grass it out' in the hope that someone might need him on loan somewhere. I congratulate you on your accountancy skills which are to be commended but (referring to your He could have easily earned ten times that amount next season) I doubt that Kevin would command 5,000 quid per week from anyone else at this stage in his career.
I'll make a prediction here, Killer will not only be playing next season, but he'll be playing the season after that too, he did not need to do what he did to extend his playing career. There was no personal gain in his actions, he's a very honourable bloke and even though I don't rate him a player, I rate him as a person and he deserves a massive amount of credit for helping us out. It's disappointing that there's still snide remarks made about his motives, just as there have been recently about the Allam's investment in the club and the fact that they're only in it for the money. I disagree with both opinions, there are some decent people out there and they deserve some credit.
Sorry, I was under the impression that nobody forfeited their wages they just 'deferred' them or, like Kilbane, spread them out over 2 years. I don't dispute anyone's motives but consider it a smart move on Kilbane's behalf as he's with the Club for another year.
