I would agree that Wessi generally doesn't play well against the top sides, whereas against Wolves on Saturday, he had one of his better games.

Strange thing football. How we all see things differntly. I thought he had an awful game Saturday. He kept coming short and getting in the way as Fox and Howson were starting to form a good partnership and I counted 5 times he lost it in a defensive area. Try the tricks upfield where it won't come to any harm.
I was one of his biggest supporters when he first came to the club and he got stick. I just thought he was playing in a crap team then and would flourish in a better line up. He did in L1 of course and banged in a lot of goals. Now he seems happy to crab across the pitch. That little chasse across the area in the 2nd half looked like he didn't have the confidence to shoot whereas in the 1st half we got the penalty through his shot that was probably going in.

sort of agree redruth, although i wouldn't say he was awful - more ineffective. the game passed him by a little but he's still a good player and a very useful weapon for us going forward. just cos he doesn't play every week shouldn't mean he is out of the door - he still has a part to play <ok>

I wouldn't want him to leave either but I do see him as playing less of a role the longer Fox and Howson play together.

as do i but all it shows is how much competition there is for places that a good player like hoolahan can't guarantee himself a starting spot. it'll be even tougher next season and some players inevitably will be superseded by better incoming players but little wesley has magic in his feet and its difficult to find players who can create like he can. i just feel he is more suited to certain games than others and that will count against him. definitely should keep him though!

I just wish he'd shoot more! As Redruth pointed out, he seems to run the width of the penalty area, then runs out of ideas. The last few games he's played he's lost the ball too many times. Can't fault his effort or commitment though, I would hate to lose him.
JUST SHOOT WES, you can do it!!!

thats because he always has to have the ball on his left foot. opponents know this and force him to the right so he ends up going back to his left!

Wrong, it was an initial fee of £750k. Not an absolute bargain, an absolute steal.

    Vomit.

you could be right - our club as usual confirmed the deal as 'undisclosed' however our local paper said the fee was £2m so i went with that. probably was an initial fee of £750k with it rising to £2m <ok>

I spoke to a leeds fan friend of mine who said he thought it was £750k with add ons to do with premier league survival etc. but was disgusted cause he said it was less than the pay off for grayson. Looking like an absolute bargain!!!

Our Technical Director Gwyn Williams leaks info to a journo called Duncan Castles. He and the local rag (who are usually reputable where all things LUFC are concerned) both reported the initial fee as £750k.

I'm really pleased with Howson and i think that given a few more games he will fully find his feet at this level. When he does he will be in the side every week. I think he and Fox (who I also rate very highly) will prove to be highly effective and will be the fulcrum of the side for the next few seasons. I am really looking forward to seeing a midfield of Bennet/Howson/Fox/Plikington take the club forward with Surman and Wes on the bench to liven things up if necessary.

I hope that PL sticks with the Fox/Howson partnership and we just need to find our best CB partnership (it would help if more than two of them were fit at any one time!) and I think a lot of the problems we had at the start of the season will not return to haunt us next year.

Bennett is one of the players that has improved as the season has gone on. Early on, he struggled somewhat, but now he seems to be getting better and better.

    I like that midfield!

My preferred back 4 from what I've been able to piece together would be Naughton, Ayala, Whitbread, Tierney!
