With Swansea already in the Prem and hopefully Cardiff getting there within the next few years, how much longer can rugby be held so exulted by the media.
How much longer before it is recognised that football has the biggest claim in Wales for being the top sport of the fans and rugby comes a poor second.
At club level rugby is so far behind football thats it is only the media that now continue with the myth that Wales is a rugby loving nation.

well with the national football team being ranked 120 or whatever, and the rugby team playing like they actually want to pull on the jersey, a long time to come probably <ok>

I’m afraid its true, no matter how good we,the Jacks, or any of the other Welsh clubs do we will always be let down by the idiots in the WFA, Welsh international football is an embarrassment and im scratching my head as to why the people in the WFA have not been held to account

I Like both, so haven't got an issue either way. Not sure why some on here think they have to be mutually exclussive.

Can't stand rugby. I haven't had any time for the game since it was forced down our throats at school by bombastic dinosaurs of sports teachers who threw a wobbly if you even mentioned the round ball.

The Welsh sports education system at school level back in the 60's was a farce. There were scores of talented football players in the 12-15 age group at the time (including me:emoticon-0105-wink:) who were denied the opportunity to take it forward because of the historic bias toward rugby.

Both games have evolved since then - football for the better with some superb skills developed, whilst rugby has become lost as a pure power game.

Taking the point that rugby is a pure power game... I believe, and this is only my opinion, that there is still a hell of a lot of flair and skill involved in rugby. They are two different but 2 brilliant sports in their own way.

There is no doubt they're are both very important games in the world of sport, the question is would football ever be acknowledged as the more popular by the media in Wales?
I would say that football is the more popular sport than rugby by far(in Wales), but this isn't reflected in the Welsh media.
With Swansea already there, and Cardiff looking to get there, would the media be forced to acknowledge that and put the emphasis on football instead of making out that rugby is king.

At the risk of being castigated, discipline and respect in the 15 man game show the 11 man game the way. None of this mamby pamby rolling on the floor when you chip a nail or shouting at the ref when you make a mistake or things don't go your way.

There, said it!

Doesn't stop me being a Bluebird through and through.

Just re-watching the Wales - Argentina game as I type.

League football at the CCS?

I'll watch the rugby Internationals at the Mill Stad but given the choice between the two, for me its a no brainer.

I actually prefer watching my children playing rugby at under 11 level that watch Wales. Having said that I watch Wales as well. I have no problem with rugby although I'm not to keen on some of the nonsense some get up to with 'initiation ceremonies' . . .

In that case I'll settle for............. nothing.

I loath the blind faith people have in rugby. If you mention you don't like the sport you'll always find someone who says how much they love it but never go to club games and only attend internationals when invited to corporate hospitality. Or the red shirted, cowboy hatted pint swilling valleys girl who gets totally confused when she can't see Shane on the pitch. The only player she knows!!!!

Go to any local park on a Saturday afternoon and there will be at least 4 games of football to every game of rugby and lets not even start to compare the attendances at league football matches compared to rugby - regions (joke) or clubs.

In fact the advent of the regions effectively killed good level competitive rugby in Bridgend. When I moved here 22 years ago every other saturday afternoon in the winter you couldn't park anywhere close to the Brewery Field and as I live within half a mile of the place I always knew when Bridgend had scored by the crowd noise. I only went to 2 games there, against Newport, 13,000 crowd and Pontypridd, 10,000. Now - nothing. No wonder half the pubs in Bridgend have closed due to the loss of the trade through Bridgend RFC's demise.

Point taken about play acting and diving and ref abuse in football but there is so much more at stake. If the authorities had any balls that could be stamped out.

I rest my case your honour.

So you dislike Rugby because it has some posh fans and some plastic fans...? hmmm...

And if we are going to compare league football and rugby matches attendance, shall we also compare Wales international Rugby match attendances with Wales football matches?.. No? Thought not..
I love playing and watching rugby and go to games whenever I can and train twice a week and play once.

But clearly I am not anti football, I am a sport freak and could not live without either Rugby or Football! Both fantastic in their own ways!
Lets be honest though, rugby is the sport that Wales will always have in its heart, despite how popular football becomes or how much it is played.

I don't understand some football fans who are anti Rugby and think it is evil, both great sports and should both be enjoyed!
