We saw a glimpse of Ryan Frederick's pace last Sunday. But is he really quick, or are we just not used to that sort of speed in our team? Well, at the age of 15 (nearly16) he was the 100m District Champion in 11.1 seconds - Seems like he is indeed the real deal!
I was meaning to post a thread on the possibility of Kaca and Fredericks together but I'll stick it here - we'd need to drop one of McC or Dembele and shift to a 4-3-3 to fully utilise their pace, but if they were on the right side for getting down the flank (not on the wrong side cutting in) then we would be a completely different team. As much as I think Kaca isn't going to get any better, the pace the two of them together would bring would make up for their lack of technical ability, compared to Pringle and Cairney. One of them could shift to the middle and play just in advance of Tunnicliffe and O'Hara who would combine passing and tackling in the holding areas. It could, finally, be a plan B. Hopefully Kit has it in mind with his substitution in the Blackburn game - it shows my feelings toward him that I suspect it's probably still completely lost on him and we'll never see it. We could try it with a 4-4-2, which is probably the most likely. My only concern with that is we would be light in the middle and the two of them wouldn't have the same freedom to pin back the full-backs. Nevertheless, Fredericks brought something we've not seen in a while, not because we haven't had quick wingers before, but because it's one of the rare occasions in recent seasons where we've seen the fast winger on his natural side getting to the byeline. Playing Kaca on the right is the biggest waste of a player, it nullifies his pace because he has no right foot and has to cut in and makes us very easily to defend against.
You know I was thinking exactly along those lines Silky, except wee Georgie Williams (when he's fit) instead of Kaca on the left. [The other thing in mind was something I posted yonks ago about Kaca registering one of the fastest speeds in the Premiership - but I can't for the life of me find it. Memory says it was in the Jol era, so a good 3 years ago, and he clocked something like 23 mph. I fear time and confidence have taken their toll on him though.]
