Good point Elfs, now I think back on it. There could have been a randy couple having a bonk in the centre circle and the players wouldn't have disturbed them I was surprised Gillingham did not have a bit more about them, with it being us they were playing and how badly they need the points - even more than we did. Very happy we held on to our clean sheet of course, with lots of effort being put in. A win does wonders for lifting spirits. Their fans were about as entertaining as their team; fighting with stewards behind the goal and quite a number of them squatting in the home stands, presumably due to the free ticket nonsense. And those flares weren't up to much. Still, all in all an enjoyable evening if far from a classic. We're a lot closer to safety now.
Now the dust has settled I'm still happy we broke that horrible run (and doing it against the Jill's was also enjoyable - their chairman must have had a miserable night!!),. To be honest, after a good first half though, our second half was pretty mediocre. The last twenty minutes, panic set it mainly due to poor passing and decision making that allowed them to his us on the break. Sadly, Elliott Lee had a wretched evening until the last few minutes where our entire game plan was to run the clock down. Horrible passing and poor choices, plus he always seems to need a couple of extra touches while he looks up and sees one channel after another get closed down. It's especially frustrating as Fraser showed exactly how to distribute quickly, and was all over the pitch - he looks a really good buy. But neither of the Lee's were a patch on their dad, and our one always tries hard but seems to want to beat the same man over and over again. Compare to CBT who in the second half outpaced his marker got to the byline and immediately crossed - lee would have doubled back, probaby a couple of times, by which time the advantage would be gone. Gilbey looked a threat, washingto kept making runs to make their defence move about (how we've missed that) but our defence still looks liable to leak a goal at any moment, even against a poor Gillingham. happy with the result, and a lot of the performance, but that is a fairly low bar after the last months.
Terrific post @Ken Shabby Part of me is really looking forward to Burton coming to town this weekend, but we'll have to raise our game. They can't be as bad as Gillingham.
Lee reminds me of John Robinson a little , he’d always want to run round the same player three times before moving on
I like the fact he is happy to run at players - we badly need that, and it brings in free kicks from time to time, but he needs to take too many touches.
Lee seems to play with his head down. The first time he got the ball he had CBT outside him in acres of space crying for the ball, but he cut inside, ran straight into traffic and lost the ball. That set the tone for his cameo. Time for someone else to get a chance.
