Gutted by that- I was going to post a cheerful prediction of a 2-0 win, but all the usual problems show up, including the clinical finishing of every team we meet at home these days. Buggered my Saturday night up.
Have a couple of beers mate - you should be used to roller coaster Charlton by now , but we are having more downs than ups
Really pi55ed off. Aneke is our best forward but he loses discipline. This defense won't get us promoted
At least scoring isn't an issue... Hopefully Famewo & Inniss are the answer, if the teams with games in hand on us won all their games I think we'd be 12th currently.
Some really good players just don't have the gift to be coaches. Or managers either I suppose. One thing I really dislike though, is men who love the Club getting dogs abuse when they fail. None of Roland's yes-men could have cared less about CAFC. They deserved everything they got.
Steve Brown's recent masterclass on defending was mighty impressive. Watching it I was thinking the exact same thing. Most teams we play defend better than we do. All our defenders have been at fault at one time or another (excluding Innis and Famewo).
I just read on ITTV that Charlton have two players in this weekend's L1 Team of the Week! We usually only get one even when we win. Take a bow Messrs Shinnie and Millar both assist providers...
I worry a little that we are expecting too much of the Innis/Famewo comeback. I believe they actually only played a handful of game stogether (thouh I can't be bothered to go back over the stats). I hope they do come back and click, and it's worth noting that while Bowyer has made some hideous mistakes, he has also lost these tow for pretty much the maximum possible time allowed for their injuries, but while we have time to collect enough points to slip into the last play off spot, it's also going to need the team to gel quickly, and almost no more injuries to come. A few less red and yellow cards would also be a help - given Bowyer hanging Williams and Madisson out to dry for not going into tackles, I wonder whether Bows maybe pushing for a too aggressive aproach?
Having viewed lardimans excellent stats thread, I can tell you that Inniss and Famewo played four games together in October. Wigan 17/10 won 1-0 Blackpool 21/10 won 1-0 Northampton 24/10 won 2-0 Oxford 28/10 won 2-0 Inniss got sent off against Oxford, so didn’t play away at Pompey on 31/10. We won 2-0 with Famewo and Gunter at CB. Famewo was substituted on 74 minutes. Inniss returned for 5/11 against Fleetwood, winning 3-2. Famewo injured. No Inniss or Famewo for about another month. Famewo came on as a 66’ sub against Milton Keynes (lost 0-1) on 2/12. Then played a full match away at Salop (1-1 draw) on 5/12. Neither have played any first team football since the 5th of December. When we had them together, I thought we were unbeatable because they were So Solid. The stats seemed to back it up. We were pretty crap going forward at this point, no Doughty no pace. Pinning our hopes on their return is what it is - hope. But it’s based upon the one time in the season where we could defend.
Curbs and the rest of the pundits all agreed the first scoring the first goal is vital in L1. Posh would beg to differ, coming from behind to beat the Gills 3-1 last night. Ogilvie almost scored another worldy, but his half-volley went narrowly over, instead of top corner, which is how things are going for us atm. Maybe it will even itself out.
