Well here we are again. 40 games played and no target left to achieve - apart from avoiding our worst 3rd tier season in 97 years. Burton are on a run of decent results and they need a few more points to be certain of safety, so they do have something to play for. One measure of how grim our season has been (despite a couple of nice wins); Unless Charlton win of our last 6 matches we will have won fewer games than we did in season 2021-22, which was an absolute low point for the Club. Our worst season in living memory at this level. Charlton have lacked any consistency this season. Two unbeaten runs of 5 games. But two runs of 8 games without a win. We batter the Shrews 6-0, then when team morale should be as high as it's going to get, we play like we don't have a heartbeat against Rovers. I'll take a point today, but in the end it doesn't really matter that much.
What ever’s going on in the background the team should be playing for their teammates, the shirt and the fans , unfortunately too often this season that doesn’t seem to be the case and the crowd is diminishing- our performance will probably reflect the weather today - wet and drab ……. Hope I’m wrong!
If Sandgaard wants me to renew my ST then he's going to have to work harder. I'm not going to save myself a few quid by taking the 'early bird' option this time around (assuming there is one). Time was I would have renewed without a second thought. But I want to see stability and progress during this summer transfer window; No sales of our best players Back Dean Holden. The last thing we need is our nth new gaffer in a couple of years. Evidence that Charlton is going to compete for top 6, not just empty chatter. If it looks like we're being mugged off again, the money stays in my account. Times are tough. Sorry, I know this is a bit off-topic on a match day thread. But after Friday my optimism at our modest unbeaten run has dried up. Aside from Ipswich all our remaining games are winnable ones. So lets win some.
I was at Burton, a great game for a neutral(Ivor enjoyed it), but our defending was shocking. Hopefully a better performance today.
DH surely has to change things a bit to keep things competitive. Henry and Kanu would freshen things up a bit, the wingers and FRaser looked sluggish on Friday and could do with a day off. 4-4-2 worked for Mike Bassett, say no more.
