Arsenal can lose points as well. A 10 point gap is not "tight", you just have to remember that it isn't a foregone conclusion and there is still work to do. When we did the "how many points to win the thing" exercise a few weeks ago, I didn't even look at the fixtures - because games are unpredictable and very often go against form. I just looked at the max number of points we could get and how many we were likely to drop - taking into account the season so far and the chance of a decline with burn-out. At the time our max was 101 and I thought 87 was achievable from that. Now, our max is 97 and Arsenal's is 87, so I feel we're well on target.
To put what @moreinjuredthanowen put slightly differently, IF we beat Soton on Saturday (and lets hope we do), then we will have a gap of 16 points on Arsenal. They would need to get 5 wins from their remaining 11 games just to close the points gap on the board to 1. That leaves them 6 games to make up the final point, plus whatever we can get in our final 9 games. So yes, all our games are eminantly drawable or losable if we're not on it, but beat Soton and the pressure is really on Arsenal to be basically flawless for the rest of the season. Also, this is our last league game in Ramadan (though we do have PSG and the LC final), so fasting shouldn't affect Salah's league performance too much. A general drop-off is still possible though of course.
They have 11 left right? So 8-3-0 record (pretty good going) puts them on 81. if anyone think arsenal can out do 81 then fair enough, they have some teams that are not great next. Teams like utd who can't score but are more focused now on the europa and then chelsea who have lost all form as they've messe dup what made palmer work both still drawable. we need 82 and are on 67, thats 15 points. 5 wins from 9 including leicester and southampton never mind the others. its about be professional as a team and relaxed as a fan base. A cup final to watch. A cL quarter final to wish for (don't wish for more right now ffs) A single league match beofre the internationals to win. no need to worry. this is the business end of the season.
Don’t forget we also play Arsenal at home. Now at the moment that is a must win for Arsenal as it could be a 6 point swing. heck even a draw is more 2 points dropped for Arsenal and a point gained for us at this stage. Now if things **** up between now and then it might become a must win for us as well
Southampton have nothing to lose. They are already as good as relegated. They will come to Anfield with a cup tie mentality. We have to be super focused and on it from the get go. Anything other than a win for us is a bad setback. It will not be easy I think but hopefully we will be professional and just get the job done
maybe and maybe they will come dreading a hiding and an early goal for us will drop their heads. all the more reason to playwell and quickly and impose ourselves on the game while respecting them by doing so. If we turn up like entitled brats who assume we can rest half a team and then tap it about and still win we wil only encorage them absolutely we have to be focused and on it but lets also see that their heads can drop.
Obviously it won't mathematically win us the league, but I see it as needing three more wins (assuming a draw or two from the ones we don't need). This is one of those games really need to try hard to get a win .. then only two more needed. I don't think we need to rest/relax too many players. Once the title is all but sewn up (and theoretically it could be before too long) then you can rest players.
Well that’s just stupid Actually possibility of points deduction cause of refs decision So actually Yeah You’d be correct
If they could score a goal themselves maybe but I can't see it myself. Utd can't score many and cheslea can't stop conceding so it's up to arsenal to deliver. Imo two midtable teams right there. Arsenal have to deliver but it is at old Trafford do I am sure utd only lose at old Trafford now.
