Having heard of yet another away tie I decided to research our Lady Luck quota in the cup competitions over the past few years. Have I been deluded, chastising the heavens unjustly? Well, not really....

Over the past 5 seasons (ie. 2007/08-today), in the FA Cup we have been drawn in SEVEN away ties and ZERO home ties. In the League Cup we have been drawn away SEVEN times and home FOUR times. For those that like percentages, I make that 0% home ties in the FA Cup and 36% in the League Cup.

I can't imagine many clubs have a lower aggregate success in home tie draws than 22% over the past 5 years. What does this tell us? Clearly Lady Luck has deserted us in recent cup draws (particularly when you consider the number of times we've drawn Chelsea or Arsenal), but, if luck really does even itself out over time, we'll be enjoying plenty of home ties against Hartlepool and Carlisle very soon. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Can anyone remember when Birmingham beat us 1 - 5?

    Given
    Solano Taylor Ramage Huntington
    Milner Dyer Butt Pattison
    Sibierski Martins

It's weird thinking that was our team once!

Ok - but in a cup scenario i would say any team in the top half of the premier league is a top team.

We might knock a top side out I think, did it to Chelsea last year in the LC.

I'm afraid I don't share the optimism. We're Newcastle. If we have the audacity to knock Chelsea out, they'll give us Arsenal in the next round again.
