I know it's prob been done to death already but without his effort on sat we wouldn't be talking about the prem next season. the ball was passed to him near the sideline ( which he lost admittedly ) but he then won a tackle on the baseline which in all honesty he didn't have to make. we would have applauded him just the same if he'd have shepherded the ball out of play. I know we abuse him a lot of the time but on this occasion you have to hold your hands up and say well done.
Yes, his part in the goal has certainly not been overlooked on my part. I wonder though whether we will ever see from him what we thought we were signing. Here's hoping.
He needed to do something as he's been largely disappointing. As I've said before recently, he seems to have done a lot of what people were criticising Mackie for, i.e. running forward, head down, into cul-de-sacs, no end product.
Yup. A whole match of poor play and then...one moment. Assist to the poor clearing move by the defender.
He seems quick but he doesn't look that tricky with the ball in his feet. Reminds me a little bit of Lennon
We've hammered him all season for his lack of end product. So it was ironic that it was another typical cross from him ie straight to a defender that led to the goal. Fair play to him for having the determination to win the tackle and just put the ball into the box though
He played an earlier part in the move for the winner when he cut out a cross field pass in the Derby build up. I really wanted to see this part of the goal as I couldent remember how they lost the ball. Very poor on their behalf, although it was a good interception by Junior, one of 3 mistakes they made for the goal.
Hoilett is the type of player that will try, try and try again. It wont work 9 times out of 10 but we have to be patient and wait for it to work. The alternative is to have the safe play, it won't get anywhere, no one will moan but it will be constant backwards passes with no chances created. Hoilett ran past a man who thought he had no chance of getting it, won a 30 70 tackle and put in a great ball. He also got us back in the semi too.
Ha yes, straight to their CB! Who luckily for us wasn't Bechenbauer and it all ended up in a huge party, and the Derby CB an extremely unhappy bloke! But I agree with what you write about Hoilett.
Also if you see the goal from the sideline BZ makes a run as soon as he thought there was a chance of something. The only placr he stopped on the pitch (or infact anywhere on this planet) was the one place he didnt have to move just swing a leg at it and the tlrest is history. One foot either side of where he stopped and it could be alot different . I love watching it from that angle...

Good things happen when you put it into a dangerous area, would you rather he passed it back to the midfield, who passed it to the FB who passed it to the goalie to hoof it to Zamora with no one within 40 yards of him? Crossing is not about being inch perfect,its about putting in an area that goalies and defenders hate. You can get a mistake, OG or a corner even if the cross isn't perfect.
I think he takes a lot of unnecessary abuse. I remember during mid-season, most particularly when we took to playing tappety-tap-tap a lot in our own half for huge parts of the games and registering 65%+ possession, it was Hoilett who seemed the only player who became bored of that and dared to venture over the half way line. He was the only guy that would actually run at the other side. It is disingenuous to suggest it was just the playoff games that Hoilett changed this season. He has of course, failings (don't they all?) but I am a fan of the lad. He is, by some degree, surely one of our most exciting to watch.
He's a winger, they all blow hot and cold except the very rare ones. I think he's alright, he doesn't give up, he runs into blind alleys, but so do they all, including Townsend who I don't think is that much better. Junior is due a purple patch like he had at Blackburn when he looked brilliant. And a few months injury free.
