At long last, an England manager who knows how to change things for the better when it mattered. We haven't had that pleasure for a while. I was gutted for 'Arry when he didn't get the England job, but now I can see why. He had his limitations in his descision making during Spurs run-in. It was also good to dispel a few myths regarding good/bad performances in either half and of course getting that never have beating Sweden in a competative match monkey off of our back. I'm not getting carried away, far from it. It just makes a refreshing change is all.
It was actually a very good sign to see an England team that genuinely seemed to care and who wanted to win. A team who seemed to grasp the simple concept that winning wasn't a god-given right. You have to work hard to win. Well done Roy
not sure why theo was not on the pitch from the begining. i thought we were really bad until he came on. we never looked like we would go two nill up and kill the game. sweden were there for the taking. i think roy style of football is so dull. i hope it will all change in the build up for the world cup. but i cant see it
Yes he made a good sub to change the game but England were poor and lucky to manage to win. Sweden were poor aswell and lucky to be 2-1 up but England have no spark and no passion. We were constantly giving the ball away and made life so difficult for ourselves. We were in 'control' if you can say that and let them back into it with terrible defending from a set piece where we couldnt even manage a challenge against Mellberg. Johnson and Terry played him onside. Second goal was equally as bad.
England were poor and are very lucky not to be out already. I dont think hes anywhere near good enough.
Unbelievable. The reason England are poor is that we don't have any really good players. Roy at least has this rabble semi organized, and possibly playing with a bit more heart than they did for Capello. I agree that anything over losing is a bonus with this bunch, but Roy is most definitely not the problem.
Bar a mad 15 minutes at the start of the second half we were the far better team. Against France they had most of the play but never looked like scoring a second. Hodgson has done a fantastic job with a limited squad in short space of time. We'll more likely than not go out in the quarters but it's further than we'd have got with the usual English gung-ho attitude.
There's not many managers that have won as much in the game like capello, and even he couldn't polish those turds. I'm wondering who this mythical manager is that can take an average bunch of players and turn them into Brazil of 1970? Not Redknapp surely?
Capello couldnt do it because the players are a bunch of losers. England will never win anything until the 30+ year olds have gone, Lampard, Terry, Cole, Gerrard. Greece managed to win the Euros with a bunch of no hopers.
Well, I agree with that Flyer. Too many playing for their wicket instead of the team, if I may mix sporting terms.
England will come good in a couple of years. A team consisting of a midfield 3 of Wilshere, Rodwell and Cleverley in the centre, and Oxlade Chamberlain and possibly Young out wide with Rooney down the middle will look very decent in 2 years.
Hodgson may have got England organised but my god is it boring to watch. Now is the time to be blooding the youngsters in this tournament as we didnt have much expectation which is perfect for young players. Instead he has continued with the old guard who have failed time and time again. We really do need to completley overhaul the squad. Germany did it a few years ago and look at their quality now.
You can hardly overhall the squad a month before the Euros begin! In fact in leaving out Rio, the Bean Pole and Scholes he has gone too far. Overhaul is for right after a major tournament not right before one!
