Been reading lots of threads comparing the situation between the 'people's choice' for England Manager - 'Arry, being passed over for a safe pair of hands - Hodgson to that of Brian Clough not have been given the job. Another 'non-story' whipped up by the tabloid press. In my opinion Redknapp comes with too much baggage which after a couple of England losse' the press would really be on his case, likewise Clough would have been a disaster as England Manager, a nasty opinionated man, who had an absolute genius for transforming very ordinary players into European Cup Winners. And he ruled with fear, punching a young Roy Keane in the stomach, slapping Trevor Francis etc etc. Diplomacy, which like it or not is important in the job, was not his biggest asset shall we say!! His one major asset was Peter Taylor, without him, not so good, if you remember 'The Damned United' you saw what happened (without Taylor) when 1 huge ego, met 11 huge egos (the film was pretty much spot on), no contest!! Then Clough and Taylor at Forest - nuff said, a couple of the timelines are a little tangled, but my point remains the same. Hey ho, a different talking point as I'm getting fed up of my Pulis bashing and Pennant jokes, as no doubt are all of you!
