I have just noticed something odd.17th October will be the 40th anniversary of an (In)famous match at Wembley.England needed a win against Poland to qualify for the 1974 World Cup.The Poland goalie, Jan Tomaszewski pulled off the performance of a lifetime to keep England out. Then Poland scored,Allan Clarke equalised witrh a penalty and the game ended 1-1.

A draw may be enough, I think San Marino will thrash Ukraine!

What's the population of San Marino these days, it wasn't too many when I was there last.

Just about high enough to scrape a team together.

Remember when Taylor was England manager and San Marino scored after about 15 seconds?

'twas a shock huh, thankfully England managed 7 <ok>

As for 'THAT' Poland game, an unbelievable night, still can't believe England only drew that, the Poles were taken to the cleaners that night - with the exception of the keeper, who oddly enough was barely mentioned ever again after that game.

I remember it well...watched the match build up, and as the match kicked off I went into the kitchen to get a beer from the fridge, returned to the tv and we were 1-0 down! unbelievable! <laugh>

My favourite SUN headline was after Sweden beat us in Euro '92

    Swedes 2 Turnips 0

It was very cruel but you couldn't help but piss yourself with laughter!

Taylor didn't help himself by subbing Lineker!

I also liked the Sun's headline when we lost 2-0 to the USA in 1993...

    "YANKS 2 PLANKS 0"
