Surely Liverpool fans collectively must take some of the blame for what happened?

This is not to exonerate the South Yorkshire Police for what they did (or didn't do), but for many years prior to this game LFC fans had a rep for jibbing in, exploiting chaos for petty crime purposes and generally being more than a handful for constabularies up and down the country.

    Their reputation went before them....

That 96 innocent people died is a tragedy, but for Liverpool fans to blame the coppers 100% is a bit rich

If stacks of Scousers turned up without tickets - that's a problem.

If the plods then bottled it and let them in - that's also a problem.

    96 dead.......that's criminal. On someone's part.

    Whose?

I'm usually one for reasoned responses but in this instance I'll just say don't be such a tit.

Bit before my time, but from what I know of the events I'd say of course Liverpool's fans should shoulder some of the blame. But people are that desperate not to offend by saying so.

It's like that Oldham player who apparently got racially-abused in their cup match at Anfield - the fan who got arrested has been released without charge, based on the evidence of CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts. Facebook and football messageboards are rife with fans saying "it's a disgrace". They're that blinded by their desire to be thought of as politically correct, they're ignoring the fact that the CPS have decided he was innocent.

If there was poor crowd control then the crowd must have been out of control. Which ever way you look at it some of the fans must take some of the blame not all of it.

The facts are that the Police did not control the situation and then blamed ticketless supporters. Thankfully in this country such events at football grounds should never happen again. But the bad taste left behind by the handling of the whole episode by those in charge will never leave.

The Police training is not really for crowd control, but for riot control. Therefore any large gathering that doesn't behave in the way the Police prefer, has a tendency to be dealt with heavy handedly, which tends to irritate and becomes self fulfilling.

I do think that, whilst they don't appear to have altered their attitude or seemingly learned much about crowds because of it, the Police have accepted that they handled the situation badly.

I read this, this morning and was shocked by the lack of respect this shows to football fans. We were and to a certain extent still are non-humans to the police.
We must stop being persicuted by the Police and being treated as scum......or overtime as the local plod call us.....respect please

I personally think the holiday home was a splendid idea. Officers at the scene that day, specifically the ones in charge, would have been traumatised and a nice family holiday would have been a good way of relieving tension and stress.

SYP are absolute tossers. As are WYP.

What was done to us last season was unforgivable, never mind Hillsborough...

The match commander of the Hillsborough game should be brought to book as well as his next in line underlings.

The game should never have been started full stop. Also, Liverpool fans should have been given the kop end and not leppings lane. So much was wrong. SYP have blood on there hands.

    WYP are just clueless.

They're not clueless. Until last November their Chief Constable was one of those involved in the Hillsborough cover up. When the decision was taken about our game with Huddersfield they still hadn't announced his replacement, after he resigned in order to prevent the IPCC being able to take action against him, which means that they were still operating under policies overseen and approved by the conspirator.
