So now we know...The prime minister has apologised, the chief constable of the west yorkshire police has apologised..for what its worth....the media has apologised...people fighting to jump on the bandwagon...then.... I see the FA have issued their statement this morning....no apology...even though they sanctioned the match being played at a stadium with no safety certificate..They were then under kelly, and still are gutless men of straw...who only ever consider the bottom line..shameful..
"even though they sanctioned the match being played at a stadium with no safety certificate.." but to be fair to them why shouldnt they have, it had never had problems before and there was no reason to think that something should have happened like it did. What happened was a horrendous tragedy, and at least the truth is finally out. No one could ever have predicted what happened and its a shame that it was handled so badly.
I think you'll find Sheffield is in South Yorkshire. I suspect things are far from finished yet, pretty much everyone involved will have retired, but that won't stop people wanting action taken.
All the police that are still serving in the force was young inexperienced pc's at the time of the tragedy so blame cant be attached to them
No comment yet from Messrs Kelvin Mackenzie (The Then Sun Editor) & Rupert Murdoch - Unusual for them to be so quiet.
Oooops - I stand corrected http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukn...use-apologies-to-the-people-of-Liverpool.html
Totally disagree - it actually showed that 'all seater' stadiums were enforced on genuine footie fans under a completely false premise in the first place.. and that if the poor sods had not been fenced in by over zealous authoritiarianism there would never have been a Hillsborough disaster ... expect the 'bring back standing' lobby to come back strongly on this .. and rightfully so IMHO .... the 'all seater' agenda was the government's and its cronies attempt to try and exclude the traditional working class football audience and therefore what it viewed as 'dangerous tribalism' (Thatcher's 'enemy within') from the national game, confining them to watching footie on Sky subscritions whilst increasing profitability from the theoretically 'more desireable' types able to afford often extortionate seat prices .... a policy now in tatters.
One person that I think should definitely get a good deal of **** kicked out of him (even though he is in his 90s) is the then MP for Sheffield Hallam Irvine Patnick who fed the story to the Sun. http://hillsborough.independent.gov.uk/repository/docs/SYP000017520001.pdf
Because it wasn't the standing that caused the crush. It was the total inadequacy of the police. Now, looking back, we can all say that what happened was totally unacceptable. Now the clubs have had chances to update their stadia there should be no reason as to why safe standing shouldn't be used. If the fans want to stand and the clubs want the atmposphere it brings then there shouldn't be a problem. One that that needs to happen is strict, thorough testing to make sure that there is no harm in safe standing.
Yeah but on the flip side had there been seats instead it never would have happened. As I said too many people against it and too much red tape. Health and safety would be the biggest issues Im not against it though, im for him. They should make the back 5-10 rows of all stadium standing and keep the rest seating. That way no one views get blocked and everyone's happy
Safe Standing is a combined seat and barrier, there's no question of a safety issue now, they're in common use in Germany and are now generally accepted to be as safe(if not safer) than seating alone. It's definitely going to happen, there's nobody opposing it any more.
It did happen before - there were serious problems at the semi final the year before with Spurs fans. Also, my mate who is a Norwich fan, said that in 1982 he had to climb a fence (on the instructions of police) to get out of that pen
Looks like the FA have heard the bad reaction and finally have been forced to apologise.....long overdue... I hope michael mansfield and the families sue the fooking asses off them...
