Just to get things into perspective: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-20339630 Nobody sets off to kill anyone in a manslaughter case, as the judge said in his summing up and sentencing in this case. But consider this: 1) The girl was paralytic, but he (the guard) still had a duty of care (so, even had Duckenfield's argument about rioting, drunk fans been true -and it provably wasn't - he, and SYP, still had their duty of care). 2) Can we imagine what the national newspapers and government would have done had Merseyrail and the BTP 'lost' the CCTV tapes, falsified the witness statements and then released stories to a pliable media that other passengers on the scene urinated on the emergency services and thieved from the dead body? Exactly.
I remember that poor girls death well and I remember the guard being jailed, the guard never had the top end lawyers that Duckenfied and Co will employ in any future court case for manslaughter charges and the guard most likely had no affiliation to the masons, he deserved his sentence just like we know the Duckenfied should do jail time but I'm not optimistic he will.
There was a lot of sympathy for him in the railway industry that he'd ****ed up and he'd have to live it with it all of his life. The union were quite clear though that the reason we don't have kids from burger bars on minimum wage doing the job was the responsibility that comes with it (and is the reason why the DfT are perpetually pushing for driver only trains to keep the cost down - **** passenger safety on their part). The feeling was that you can't be paid extra for responsibilities then deny them when things go wrong. Contrast that, a lowly train conductor and its role, with a highly paid police force (have you seen what the police charge to supervise venues, and in order to get a licence you have to pay it - and it's a monopoly too), a superintendent and suchlike: their immediate reaction is shove the responsiibilty they were so keen to be paid for back down to the lowest common denominator - i.e. the fans.
Well played to the @WatfordFC fans that did this today #JFT96 This was outside the Ship and Mitre pub on Dale Street, Liverpool, this morning. please log in to view this image

Been quite a lot of decent honest lads along in the last few weeks. Newcastle, dortmund, villareal, Swansea.... sharp contrast with the filthy mancs who did their upmost to be offensive but I prefer to focus on the majority who have been very good. The swans were brilliant last day out.
can i just say, we shouldn't judge all mancs on the minority, i fecking hate them with a passion, but they know deep down this is a win for all concerned with football and a 2 fingered salute to the establishment that did their fecking upmost for 27 yrs to hide the truth
Anybody see the Hillsborough doc on BBC 2 earlier ?? Gave some new angles on it and new footage I think, certainly hadn't seen some before ... you wonder how much of it has been suppressed since it happened, on top of all the lies. Feckin sickening
Emotional viewing. South Yorkshire Police Force must be disbanded...time and time again...the top officers changed over 3 decades but the same attempt to deny justice and prolong the lies so devastating to the survivors and families. As an institution it has shown it can not be redeemed. It needs to go.
It's absolutely disgusting, from the ritual kidnapping of that officer as initiation through to the absence of instruction from the control tower at the ground. It's all so wrong
Watch it mate and be proud to be a Red given the actions and humanity shown by of a lot of our fans in the face of horror
Prof Phil Scraton is an amazing human being, for 20 years he's pushed for the truth on behalf of the families, he knew it was there and through sheer determination against the odds he uncovered the reems of evidence that led to the Hillsborough Independent Panel and ultimately the new inquests that finally told the real TRUTH.
To think duckenfield was sat up there looking right down on people dieing while he was scheming how to cover it up. Literally watching them die. And thinking what lies to tell
BBC missed an opportunity tonight, they were good enough to show the documentary but they showed it on a Sunday night and at a time that clashed with MOTD, but to those that did watch it and that still held the view that was fed to them since 89 had the chance to see the damage the lies caused to the decent families that suffered 27 years of the disgusting behaviour of the establishment.
It was a wonderful documentary and brilliantly put together so soon after the inquiry verdict. Well done BBC2
