Reading the thread started by Impsaint, I feel compelled to mention Hillsborough. That we know for certain that Liverpool will be in the semi-finals again on the weekend 14/15 April is amazing, but Hillsborough should mean something more for all football fans of a certain age.

Hillsborough was a disaster waiting to happen. The lives it took could have been anyone of us who were going to matches pre-Taylor. We can all recall being herded like cattle, squeezed onto inadequate terracing, being treated as sub-human. Football was the great working class game, and the working class were scum as far as the establishment was concerned.

That I have chosen to live in this wonderful city adds poignancy to the events of 15 April 1989. The way that scousers simply will not accept the "official line" is to their enormous credit. But I hope that each anniversary will remind all of us that we supporters should never accept the conventional wisdom about us and demand that we are treated decently wherever we go to watch the beautiful game. And to continue to fight for the truth about that day.
