    Hill to sacrifice QPR future
Out-of-contract defender focused on keeping Rs in Premier League
    Last Updated: March 30, 2012 12:08pm

The defender could be restored to boss Mark Hughes' starting XI against Arsenal on Saturday, with the Welshman likely to reshuffle his backline following a dismal defensive showing at Sunderland last weekend.

Hill's contract expires in the summer and the 33-year-old admits he is more likely to get a new deal if the Loftus Road club is relegated to the Championship.

But he insists his focus is firmly on retaining Rangers' top-flight status - not his own future.

    Chance

"If we stay up I can see the club spending more money and getting in another five or six players," he told the Fulham Chronicle.

"I would probably have a better chance of getting a contract if we go down.

"I've spent most of my career in the Championship - and know it like the back of my hand.

"Everyone is desperate for the club to survive. We've worked so hard to get here and we're doing all we can to stay up."

offer the man a new 1-2 year deal now, he's deserved it. He's been our best CB past few games, and would probably play with even more enthusiasm if he had his contract sorted.

Him and Derry are the closest we have to 'legends' at the moment. Agree he should get a new contract... and awarded that 'goal' against Bolton!

The man himself is absolutely spot on. He knows it's his last season with us if we stay up, and rightly so. Why would be offer him a new deal now? If we stay up he will need to go, because we will be expected to clear out the players in mid 30s and bring in fresh younger blood. We can't just give players contracts because they have a big heart at the moment. Clint Hill and Shaun Derry are too old to play in the premiership week in week out.

Does that mean Giggs and Scholes are ****e because they are even older?

I'd have a starting eleven full of the ' Old Guard, ' at least they'd play with some passion and pride.

Can't believe you said that. He's earned the contract on his performances. The fact that he is a model pro has nothing to do with fans appreciation of what he has done. If he were ****e but had blue and white coursing through his veins, we would all be on his case.

He is not good enough for the Premier division. Scholes and Giggs have been top performers in the best team in the country. You cannot compare then to Clint Hill and Shaun Derry. Don't get me wrong, great passion and commitment, but if they're so good why are we still in the bottom 3?! I would not be satisfied seeing them two in our starting 11 next season.

I'm not comparing their ability or what team they play for you stated mid thirties too old to play regular prem football which is a rather sweeping statement and I just pointed out two players aged 36 & 37 playing regular prem football!

Personally I think both could do a job in the Prem and would not be surprised if a promoted side or lower prem team comes in for Hill as a squad player when his contract expires, our loss if that happens.

Hill is the ONLY player to have earned his place in the team...we tried to loan him out and he came back bigger and stronger and more determined....!

deserves to be in the team and a lot of others could do with taking a leaf out of his book!!

As for next season..i'd keep him as a squad player for a year, unless we make some "wonder signings". but; judging by our signings previously I reckon he'd be playing again!

Good man. But he's our best defender in the premier league so we should be hiring him for next season if we stay up, too.

If we go down then he should stay, I do think if we stay up it will be a difficult decision as defence is not our strong point...

Clint's well worth his weight... and a two year contract in either league.

Value for money in anyone's book. Compare him to anyone at the club and he stands well proud.

    Hill - Sacrifice
Like the thread title, and on balance I would sacrifice Hill for survival. I will leave the method of sacrifice to FJ, on the proviso that it is a public event. Surely our collective happiness is worth one man's life?

Clint is our best defender at present - he should be the last to go. His age is irrelevant as long as he performs. He's only 33 according to this and could have 5 years in him yet.
