Yeah, that's what we need: Mark Highes as manager and Rupert Lowe as Chairman.

i suppose NW can't grumble about why he was dismissed after blackburn's win yesterday anymore. He was apparently set the target of not dropping into the relegation zone, and before Hughes side had kicked a ball in earnest, that's where they were. Tough game but history suggests that a change of manager at christmas is nearly always a positive move, and that points per game go up as a result.

I admit that I don't share the amosity toward Wilkins. He may have used the statement 20 times in 10 minutes - I don't know, I was concentrating on the game - but it seems to me to be good advice.

I've said on many threads in the past that footie is ostensibly a simple game. If you have the ball, then the opposition can't score. It is no accident that we're losing many games where our overall possession is well below 50%. Teams dominate their opponents when they keep possession. The opposition has to chase for the ball, maintain concentration and defend for longer periods. It is no surprise that we are not picking up points and the defence is getting a pasting from contributors to this site when our midfield and forwards can't keep hold of the ball for more than 5 seconds.

Today we were facing a pretty impotent Newcastle United missing Tiote and Ba. But even in their weakend state they were rarely troubled. You might point to clipping the frame on two occasions - which I think are therefore not shots on target - and Krul having to make a couple of comfortable saves, but had I been a Toon fan today I don't think I'd have found me ol' ticker skipping a beat at any time.

We're pretty awful and are in the league position that we deserve.
