Hi guys, i've been following Saints for 45 years now and i must admit i have been following this website all season. I would just like to ask what rating would people give Aaron Martin out of 10?
For looks or ability? He has been solid, come in & done a good job. One iffy game where there were a few changes, so I'll forgive him that. 8/10
Id personally rate him as 3. He had a few good games last season but think he should've accepted his alleged move to West Ham.
What, you serious. He has stepped up really well, at a time we were in desperate bloody need. Now if we had signed him for ten million to sort out the defence, the rating would have been a bit lower, but he's one of ours, & he has done well.
HR Are you sure? Just because he is a local lad does not make him a better player. He let us down against Leicester and i also remember him being run raggid by Chris O'grady last year!
Martin has been one of our best players recently. Yes the Leicester game was bad but everyone was bad in that game! 7.5/10
Martin has the potential to be as good if not better than Matt Mills, ie. A leading light in the Championship. He gets a solid 7.5 from me, I feel safe with him at CB. And what games have i seen him play well in? Countless games, so I'll name but a few: Blackpool in the FA Cup last year, Bolton in the League Cup last year, Leeds this season, Millwall in the FA Cup this season... I could go on. Every time he is called upon he does a job, and he has leadership qualities far beyond his years. Good prospect.
Coventry away in the FA Cup. He completely dominated the forwards and the back line the whole game and looked like more of a leader then Hooiveld in that. Then he also scored just to add to it. Good player!
Copes well under pressure. Determined and eager. Enthusiastic and ambitious. More than adequately filled the boots of Jose Fonte during his injury and has got a handful of clean-sheets to brag about. 8/10
Speaking on behalf of RGLB, Martin was very impressive in the cup tie with Millwall at the weekend. It's because of our strength in defense, that meant Millwall took so long to capitalize on there overwhelming possession. Martin and Hooiveld together stopped Millwall creating chances, despite having the ball for large parts of the game.
I just think that when he comes up against the good strikers he is found wanting. Also believe that alot of the people who give him positive feedback are blinded by the fact he is a local lad when in fact in all honesty he is our 5th best centre back.
At least a 7 but with huge potential. He plays in a position (like a goalkeeper) where any mistakes get magnified, but has the makings of a great CB.
