I have a headache after today. I will probably sound miserable - I loved seeing and hearing Rufus, Curbs and Victoria Stanyon. The trophy presentation was great. The rest of the razzamatazz was awful. What was the point of Dave Berry? The Red Devils came up to the West Upper and stood right in front of my seat. After a very patient one minute I told them and their wives to either f**k off out of the way, or to just sit down. They all left at that point. When Valley Floyd Road started up, an old girl behind me sang the words to Mull of Kintyre. Very funny. Kermit's goal was a beauty. Can't wait for the Football League Show. I was looking out for you, Tewks: but not knowing what you look like didn't help. COYR!
Ponders, you couldnt have been far from me mate, as the devils were quite close by. The biggest disappoinment for me was the non lap of honour - it seemed like Kermy was the only one who wanted to do it - a big disappointment on a great day - all they needed to do was run around the ground for 5 mins FFS - without the entourage/wives/kids ! Thought Dale Stephens wife/girlfirend was real hot though ! Kermy's goal was a stormer !! Have a look and let me know if you thought he meant it, TBH on second look, i'm not so sure now...what a goal though.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2tVDAwjWxE
Wahey, great game. Had a four course meal today at the valley....threw most of it back up >_> Great game, lost 70p in 20 quids of bettings, so not bad. Voted Kermo MoTM, he won it. Put my name down as Bruce Wayne, as you do... got kermo's autograph on the program as well as Sir Chris Powell's. Shook the hand of both legends, not washing this hand ever again. A ****ing amazing day, well worth the price.
Kermit's goal was a cross.... but i don't mind, it went in all the same, was a great day superb day and good performance too
oh and once I upload it onto my laptop i'll post the pic of Mikel Alonso I took just so I can prove he was alive...
Nice to see the photo's for all of us who were'nt there. Gotta agree with the comments about the lap of honour, though I suppose the club would argue that it was all sort of done on the respective matches we were promoted and then crowned champions. Anyway, thus ends probably the most successfull season at the Valley that any of us can remember. Thanks to Chris and the team, and please can we do it again next year (without the 4-2 home defeat against Notts County).
Teensy weeny moan. Just heard CP's speech and the "weve got our charlton back" response. Very moving. But I had (only just) left with 20000 others by then. Why couldn't this have been done while they were building the stage???? We could all have heard it then.
Not sure if I'm biased, but thought Stephens was excellent. The only player who showed himself to want the ball (looking at you Hollands). Made the mistake when he was robbed in possession early in the 2nd half, but otherwise I thought he was the only decent midfielder (apart from Pritchard when on). The lap of honour was bizarre. I was never really sure if it actually started. And good to meet you to, stu. Apologies for running late again. If it helps I have an almighty head ache
It was very moving Ybab I did notice that E & W were quite empty at the time but 90% of NU waited to the very end but that was probably because the 'Lap of Honour' took so long to reach us and only then did BigDL do the interviews
Yep. We stuck with it till the last players went past and then scrambled. It did all seem a but strung out and disorganised. Would have loved to join in with WGOCB. I did sort of hear it as we were walking behind the Covered End at the time. Great day though.
If you watch Kermorgant in training and warming up before the match then there is no doubt in my mind that he meant it. It doesn't always come off but it is the mark of a great player that he even struck the ball on the full. As for the substitutions, I was surprised that Jacko started he obviously wasn't fully fit but Haynes is another one I am happy to keep in the side. Wagstaff was definitely on an off day and for my mind, apart from the goal, Danny Hollands looked as though he didn't have any desire to get near the ball. There were many occasions when a little bit of effort from him would have won the ball back from the pools. Pritchard was without doubt the game changer and his commitment was second to none when he came on. As for the entertainment, the Korean soprano looked as though she didn't quite know what to expect when she came on and she was without doubt over shadowed by a terrific performance by young Victoria, who sang because she meant it. The red devils were really good and I for one was enthusiastic to witness them dropping in over the west stand. They were only booked in at the last minute and probably didn't have any seats to sit in and should have been given temporary seats in front of the west stand, but these things get overlooked at the last minute. The impromtu fly past by the RAF in celebration was also welcome, if a bit distracting. The post match celebration was a little bit of "after the Lord Mayor's show" with the celebrations being had at Carlisle and Wycombe matches, but it meant a lot to some of the players, Wiggins, Solly and Kermorgant who took the trophy round the pitch. The photograph taken by Madam Kermorgant of her husband and son on the winners podium after the walk around also showed how much it meant to him. There will undoubtedly be a bit of a clear out of some players over the summer but most of the team on the pitch (with the exception of the likely retirning Euell) will, I hope, still be at the club because even those criticised today for poor performances will be capable at the next level.
I noticed the goals in the 2nd half mainly came from long balls/long range passing than any slow build-up play and just goes to show sometimes varying the technique plays dividends. Well done to Harlepool for playing such good stuff and also to their colourful fans. It demonstates the depth of talent in other league 1 teams, I'd love to them come up in the near future.
