The Hammers are reportedly eyeing a bid for the Newcastle United midfielder, with Southampton also said to be interested.

West Ham United are eyeing a summer move for Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote, according to the Sunday People.

Indeed, the east London side are said to be eyeing the services of the Magpies man - who is rated by his current club at a value of £7.5 million.

West Ham's interest, though, depends on one condition: whether Alex Song signs for the Upton Park outfit on a permanent deal.

Should his future lie elsewhere, West Ham will reportedly move for Tiote, who Newcastle will be willing to sell as he is 'unlikely' to sign a contract extension after his current one expires in two years' time.

Southampton, meanwhile, have also been linked with the 28-year-old by the People.

West Ham ended a poor run of results on Saturday afternoon with a late 1-0 win over Dick Advocaat's Sunderland. Newcastle's own poor run continued, however, despite an improved second-half showing against Arsenal.

If the Hammers' interest in Tiote proves true, then, it will be interesting to see whether the Magpies man will be willing to make the move South in the summer - or indeed consider the option of joining the Saints.

Yeh but West Ham has said they will go for Tiote if they cant keep Song so all we have to do is get Carver to use his extensive contacts at Barcelona (apparently he came through the coaching school there) and sign Song up. Then when West Ham come asking if Tiote is available and at what price we can say "Yes he is and he's going for a Song".
