Asamoah Gyan: I will not be leaving Sunderland this summer - or any time in the near future Last updated at 12:21 PM on 21st June 2011 Comments (0) Add to My Stories Share Asamoah Gyan has reiterated his love for Sunderland, insisting he will not be departing the Stadium of Light this summer. The Ghana international has been the subject of reported interest from Tottenham, but Gyan admitted he is happy at Sunderland and has no intention of leaving Wearside. 'I am not leaving Sunderland and I am not interested in these rumours in the newspapers and on the internet. Leading scorer: Asamoah Gyan netted 11 times in 33 appearances in his first season in England 'I am fully committed to Sunderland because I love the institution and traditions of this club,' the 25-year-old told MTNFootball. 'I am staying at Sunderland next season and for the foreseeable future and I am looking forward to meeting my team-mates and Sunderland fans when we return next month.' Gyan joined Sunderland in a £13million-plus move from Rennes last summer and scored 11 goals in his first campaign on Wearside. Manager Steve Bruce bought him to partner Darren Bent in attack, although his plans had to be ripped up when the England international left for Aston Villa in January. Well from the horses mouth thats one thing less to worry about
Excellent news. I'm hoping for big things from him and Sess next season. In terms of a striker to go with him I think we'll end up bringing in some foreign lad in August totally out of the blue. One player who I'd take to fill out the squad is Bothroyd. There seems to be a divided opinion on here about whether he is good enough but I think he could well be. 20 goals and 8 assists in the championship is a decent return. I reckon he could do a Beckford. Getting him in on a free and chipping in with some important goals here and there. I think it would be a shrewd purchase from Bruce but I'll not be gutted if it doesn't happen.
Perhaps I'm being optimistic, but this is good news on two levels for me. The first being, obviously, Gyan won't be going anywhere. But Gyan has been quite cagey regarding the transfer rumours in the past, not saying yes or no either way. Add to that the interest from spurs and all the rumours that he would like a move to London, and I think Bruce MUST have said something very reassuring to him about the future of SAFC for him to now suddenly come out and say he wansts to stay so definitively. The fact that he's gone from "but there is nothing I can do if Sunderland want to keep me.” to "I am staying at Sunderland next season and for the foreseeable future" in a matter of days definitely implies to me that Brucey has a gameplan and big things are in the pipeline. He's a smart lad and must want what's best for his future. The fact Brucie has managed to convince him that SAFC are a better option for him than Spurs has definitely calmed my nerves for a bit. SOMETHING big must be around the corner... right???
I also like Bothroyd, we should absolutely be going for him. He's different, he's strong and he grafts, Gyan would benefit from him without question, IMO.
yep read that and its good to hear lets hope this settles things down a bit. Unless of course we get £50m for him
****ing tried him the guys a twat. I still say sturridge and im not a Boothroyd or Campbell fan id rather have Elmander
Elamander went to fenerbache or somewhere like that didnt he. Galatasaray then, correct country anyway lol
For some reason Elmander always made me think of a horse. And, ironically, he was horse ****. Funny that.
