Andy Awford is caretaker and along with David Connolly and Alan McLaughlin will take charge of the game against Scunthorpe tomorrow night.

    A sad ending.

Blimey, I was not expecting that, nor had I called for him to be sacked but as you say it's a sad ending, but hopefully he can stay on in another capacity.

Guy has gone - there is no job for him at Pompey now. This is the reason I didn't want him to be given the job in the first place - it happens too often.

Martin Allen and Kevin Dillon were both at the game on Saturday. Allen won 2 of the last 11 games and the Gills fans wanted rid of him. They don't call him mad-dog for nothing.

We're going to see loads of names now. Lots wanting Appleton back, others wanting Neil Warnock.

As if the fans are really going to have a say!

Don't want to see him back here........... he used to stand on the sideline like a gargoyle. He also met with the trust just after it was clear they would be taking over, and left within a few short weeks.

You should hear some of the names being bandied around. <doh>

Had to be done. I like Whittingham but losing in front of crowds of 15,000 is not acceptable.

Real shame for Guy, who at the end of the day is an extremely decent person.

But, we must survive this season, and remain in the Football League - that is our priority. Our current tactics, or lack of them, is worrying to the extreme.

Andy Awford is the short term answer only, as he has already made it clear that his future at the club;to his mind; is running the Academy where he is currently doing a brilliant job. I agree that Martin Allen is not the answer, nor Michael Appleton, or Steve Cotterill.

We need fresh blood, someone with some football managerial experience, tactical nous, owns his own hairdryer, and has a winning mentality - a younger Sir Alex Ferguson (whom I despise as a person, but at the same time begrudgingly respect as a manager) - is there such a person available at the kind of money we as a club can afford to pay ?

Answers on the back of a postcard please, to the following address...............

The main names so far are..............

    Martin (mad dog) Allen
    Colin (aka Neil Warnock)
    Kevin Dillon
    Kevin Curle
    Justin Edinburgh
    Gary Megson
Steve Cotterill - a real marmite choice there
    Herman
    Di Canio
    Uncle Avram
Ian Holloway - I could cope with him

    and that's just for starters.

    Di Canio? Are you kidding?

The guy is a self-confessed fascist. He also threw his toys out of the pram because Swindon wouldn't give him loads of money to spend. They had an embargo applied shortly before he walked.

I said after the game on saturday this was on the cards........it was being banded about shortly after the game a meeting was on the cards, and as much as I like GW as a person and fully respect what he did last season, his tactics this season leave something to be desired!

Not sure what realistic names are being thrown out there, but you can bet your life if Caitlin has not already got some one in the frame, ( I have been told he does) there wilbe a mega long list of cv's coming in! My choices would be:
    1 warnock
    2 holloway
    3 notsurebutwouldlikewarnockplease

Surely Whittington was taken on because he was cheap on the wage bill and if that was the case how could you afford the likes of Holloway and Warnock ?

Certainly would be an entertaining time with Ian Holloway in charge <laugh>

I'm surprised that with The Hermanator named as a possible contender, that Jamo has not been mentioned as of yet. They are both probably too nice to be chosen as the new manager.

I think you meant Whittingham (as in Guy), rather than Whittington (as in Dick), Possum <laugh>

Mind you, with the pantomine season fast approaching, who knows ? Look behind you.......

Danny Wilson would do a good job for your lot, currently out of work.
