SUNDERLAND face fierce competition from Italian side Palermo for John Guidetti.
The Black Cats want Manchester City’s Swedish striker, 20, on loan in January.

But Palermo chief executive Pietro Lo Monaco is believed to have already held talks with City.

Guidetti is hot property after netting 20 goals in 23 games on loan at Feyenoord last term.

Albert, all I know about this lad is his you tube stuff from last year where te be fair he looks very good.

However, that aside he is just a name that we keep getting linked with.

Can anyone say they have ever watched him and if he is that good, why are only us and a pile of Italian ****e after him?

Why not a host of European clubs?

Sounds like a re-surfacing link from he Summer really and as said, why stunt the progression of Wickham with a player who has just signed a new deal with Man City.

7 of his 19 goals were pens (you still have to score them) and he got 3 hat tricks in 3 consecutive home games which always helps.

When berbatov scored a few a couple of years back, he managed 13 in 3 games (5 in 1 game anyway) and fergie stopped playing him a few weeks after that, people were why he is the top scorer, but if he isnt scoring regular why get a game thats the problem for me with Guidetti and the fact it was Holland, remember alves for boro he was world class over there....

Loan to buy... Yes please no downside.

Not interested in developing their young players or buying a complete unknown though.

I would be happy with Guidetti

I have only seen clips of him but he seems a player who certainly has ability and thats what we need.

I hope the club can get it into the deal that if he plays well then we have the option to make the deal permanent in the summer especially with Campbell and Saha out of contract and it looking likely Ji will be off as well.

We certainly need another striker in January because apart from Fletcher and Wickham the others are a waste of space

    hope this is true....

Sunderland have seen off Palermo in the race to capture John Guidetti on loan from Manchester City in January.

The Black Cats want the Swedish striker, 20, on loan for the rest of the campaign to bolster a strikeforce that has been heavily reliant on Steven Fletcher this season.
Yesterday it was claimed Sunderland faced fierce competition from Italian side Palermo for Guidetti - who impressed while on loan at Feyenoord last season.
Palermo chief executive Pietro Lo Monaco was understood to have already held talks with City, but the Serie A club have now accepted that Guidetti wants to go to the Stadium of Light.
Guidetti netted 20 goals in 23 games on loan at Feyenoord last term but has not played first-team football this season while City waited for him to sign a new three-year contract, which he did in October.
