Got to be Rocket Ronnie O Sullivan I reckon by some distance, possibly not just the best snooker player but best sportsman ever. Unbelievable talent and that 147, WOW. 2nd and 3rd would probably be Hendry and Davis respectively. Most overrated probably a toss up between Jimmy 'born loser' White and both of the famous Higgins. What do you reckon peeps?
I shall respect your selection of the tag 'greatest' and a lot of people will agree with you as its very hard to argue against Ronnie O'Sullivan as the greatest player to EVER hold a cue... And as youve also picked out the 7 times and 6 times champions of the past in Hendry and Davis its hard to argue again with them being in a top 3 of all time greats... But... To say Jimmy White is the one of the most 'overrated' players to have been is very wide of the mark As you dont make 6 World Finals without having some talent... As for either of Alex or John Higgins, well... John Higgins is well regarded as having one of the best snooker brains in the game. And thats not my opinion but Steve Davis's opinion... But i do agree with him... Alex Higgins broke the mould of a gentlemans sport and made it exciting and opened the game to a very new audience to which we may never have seen the likes of Jimmy White... If you dont beleive me then watch this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=UIuTe5IGytg This is about as unlikely a break that you will ever see made at the World Championships under great pressure... Its just simply out of this world...!!! If you still think that Alex Higgins was 'overrated' then i will let you keep to your opinion, but i think you will be in a very small minority...
Ronnie is no doubt the most naturally gifted to ever play and the most exciting so he is alway's going to be up there along with Hendry and Davis, I also disagree with the White comment, Jimmy White is a very good snooker player and had the unfortunate timing of running into Hendry in final after final, but a very natural player indeed. If i had to choose i would say O'Sullivan but again i couldn't argue with anyone choosing Hendry or Davis as their record speaks for itself. What about this for a shot? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loZndIrYUE0 Also don't rule out Andy Hamilton or James Wattana!
