http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co....our_favourite_centre_backs_revealed_1_3452771 Not sure if any of you have seen this in the YEP. It looks to have raised quite a discussion. Lucas over 40% beating Norman and Big Jack, personally I think the fans have gone for Lucas the man and not the footballer. Big Jack and Norman Hunter all the way for me, Woody if he could have stayed fit!
I think Radebe was brave and strong and exceptionally mobile He always looked solid and yes the fans took to him 100% I liked woody but also like Fairclough him and huggy Bear were a great partnership but nothing special on their own. Hunter i think woudl get my vote... him and Radebe would have been unbeatable!!!!
I think we've been blessed with some real quality in this position. I was never lucky enough to see John Charles but according to others he'd have walked into most sides at CB or Striker. Nearly forgot Neill Collins too.
I adore Radebe. For me I’d have gone Charlton though. But you cant deny Radebe was a leader, strong, passionate and had the ability. Maybe that’s why? Plus you’ve also got to think that the people who actually saw the greats from back in the day is now a lot less than have seen Radebe etc cos of the newer/younger fans (like myself )
I call people bairns too Its like I only know a few who have heard of laking or leking. (different ways to spell it!) but I always use to say it as did my gran. “You off to lake out?” LOL.
Here in York it was always larking! ..............."Is Bob larking out" Strange thing the English Language!
A lot of people wouldn't have had the chance to see John Charles, Hunter or Charlton play. Can't believe Jonathan Woodgate and Rio Ferdinand got 5% of the votes between them, who would vote for them
In my time, then Radebe is the only real choice, with Fairclough a distant second, although i've always had a soft spot for Molenaar and Wetherall.
Couldnt stand Newsome! Weatherall had a long old career, only hung up his boots a few years ago in 2008! Thats 19 years & 506 apps. True pro.
Woodgate was a class defender and would have been an England regular if it wasn’t for the ridiculous antics of a drunken night out and so many injuries. As for Rio Cashinhand, a quality footballer but to tell you the truth I never rated him as a defender; he makes far too many errors, far too cocky. His focus during a game could leave a lot to be desired.
Pretty obvious it should be Charlton and Hunter with the amount they won. No offense to Radebe who I class as one of our legends, but people are definitely swayed by whatever's happened the most recently in votes like this. I never saw the great Revie team but with the amount they won, it just seems obvious. I mean there's people who say Simon Grayson's our third best manager ever; Lorimer even said he was our second best ever after Revie! Madness. Radebe's head-and-shoulders third choice though. And Pags, I used to be asked if I 'were laking out' in Bratfud, but I've never heard it as larking or leking. Weird Yorkies. And isn't 'bairn' a Scottish word? Don't think you'd ever catch me saying that.
Peter Haddock has to be one of the most underated Leeds centre backs. Never seemed to have a bad game. Not sure what became of him, just seemed to disappear from the scene around 1991. Very classy player.
