I'm still up in the clouds after the result and performance today, but I have to say that something is keeping me a little grounded.

Where did that performance come from, and where has it been all season?

Now I have sat through all the games this season, looking at MON to show me where he is taking the club and wondering where it was all going wrong. Looking back to his first game vs Blackburn we all came onto this site saying pretty much the same as we have today (granted beating them lot by the scoreline we have is a lot different to Blackburn) how Ellis Short has come up trumps and we have the perfect setup to finally go places, but after a short burst of optimism SAFC manage to return to form by turning gold into cheap metal.

My pessimistic side, which being a Sunderland supporter runs deep, wonders how long the PDC effect can keep going? MON was hailed to be the man motivator, and we all bought into this up until the FA Cup replay with Everton, but where was this motivation when we really needed it? Are we opening ourselves up to the hype surrounding PDC too soon?

What I'm trying to say in too many words is, when will our players realise that these performances every once in a while is not good enough and that a change in manager shouldn't be required to bring out their true potential for a short period. As fans we need to expect more consistency and players who will play for the shirt regardless of the opposition or competition, only then can we expect any success.

Now I'm off to watch MOTD2 in hope Mary is in the studio!

I can understand your fear, but something tells me it's different this time. Di Canio's hands on training sessions and his desire to win tells me he will be a massive success here.

Ktf and bask in our glorious win

I don't want to come across as doom and gloom, I've had a cracking day like most and despite the result last week enjoyed the game against Chelsea too.

I just would love to know why our players over many years and managers can't show at least 90% of there ability more consistently, rather than tend to play for a few games after a new manger is appointment end and then can't be arsed to keep it up? I thought it was time for MON to go, as I did when Bruce left, but each time I thought the players let the previous manager and fans down when you see how they can play when they choose to.

It's the same story when we play 110% against top four sides but then don't show up against teams we need to beat if we want to cement top 10 finishes!

Long may these performances continue until we are safe but please don't let these standards slip to such dreadful levels that we witnessed against Norwich and QPR when we hopefully kick off the premier league in August.

Fredor, FFS we need to look beyond two games a season if we want to achieve anything. Enjoy this win but don't tell me everything is suddenly rosy and that a Jekyll and Hyde team is alright as long as we perform against the scum.

Nordic, do you have a point?

We're not Jekyll and Hyde at all.

We were ****e under O'Neill and have been lifted by a better fit of manager. It's not like we've turned it on and off all season. We've been ****e.

    Last two games. Different matter.

So between Blackburn at the end of 2011 and Everton QF FA Cup 2012 replay we were ****e? give your head a shake, folk on here were willing to have MON over to shag their women, which reminds me of the PDC reaction now. It seems to me the players are choosing when they can be arsed to play, rather than any magic from management. Time will tell if PDC can maintain the players current desire, but don't rewrite history of the same impact MON had.

I do understand where you are coming from, but I just couldn't quite believe that anyone would come out with it so soon after beating our sworn enemies 3-0...

To be fair pdm I can see where you're coming from. Always seems to be the same with us! However, PDC is the most passionate manager we have had certinly in my memory, so maybe, just maybe, this time it will be different.

No point worrying about it now of all times mate, just enjoy the win and hope for the best in future, as we always do!

Fair enough RAW, can totally appreciate that, I guess it was poor timing. It just gets to me that we are capable of that, yet see it too infrequently. I want to hold the players to these performances and use this as a yardstick for the rest of the season and beyond, not to revert to the dross we have been served up and forgive it because of this one result. We need to expect more of our club.

To clarify.... Lets not wait another thirteen years, lets see a derby day attitude every game, yes we'll not string victories like this together as often as we want and individuals will have an odd off day but lets at least expect some passion!
