'He was still a tyre fitter back then in Carlisle and I remember him always asking for an extra hot dog from the lady in the kitchen.'

    What a story.

Hard work and persistance married to just a little bit of talent.

I'm sure he'll love the photo of him as a 17 year old.

    Great read, cheers Dave.

His is the kind of story that TV and film producers reject for being unrealistic. As has been said, he should be an inspiration to all players in lower or non-league football. Legend.

They'd agree with the bit about extra hot dogs. But probably not about the 'legend' reference!

This man is a true inspiration! Despite his knock backs he has shown a real love for the game and determination to make a real impact on the football world. His mental toughness is outstanding and should be viewed as a bench mark for all young players. While people may claim he is not skilful or the most talented footballer in the world his mental attributes make up for this in a huge way.

I would be so pleased for him to get and England cap and think he could actually do a decent job! How many foreign players have come up against a player like Holt?

It's an amazing read. He's the Rocky Balboa of Football, but theres much more to come from him. He's a natural goalscorer at every level and an England callup could happen very soon.

He'll be held amongst the greatest Norwich city heroes, build him a statue. Lambert giving Holt a high five outside the Barclay

Is relegation to league one and Grant Holt getting an England call up signs of the Ipswich apocolypse?

Because I'd get your tin helmet ready if I were you mate.
