Glad that its off after the game finishes tomorrow. Should just about get back to the car to listen to the commentary and hopefully not have to take my mind off the game listening to it.

I think i'll back 4 with Bruce in mind.

    ON HIS OWN
    BUYWISE
    SHUTTHEFRONTDOOR (on his way out)
MANY CLOUDS (have a silver lining)

Good luck to all those punting…!!

Eh? Two horses died on the first day of this meeting. Ten have died in the last five years.

I never used to think like this but I do now. The National on the whole is for horses who are a bit **** and not good enough to go for the Gold Cup.
Just plodders going round, with some notable exceptions.

Why is it starting so late tomorrow? Is it something to do with the tides?

Edit. Ah sorry of course that's the Boat Race.

I've done my every 3 or 4 year routine of 'open accounts with all the online bookies for the offers'.

Going into tomorrow the money I've got for signing up and placing bets is £5 more than the money I've had to bet. I'll also take £25 so long as Sheff Wed don't draw with Bristol, and have got £2.50e/w (places 1-5) on these 4 in the National:

    The Romford Pele 40/1
    On His Own 66/1
    Just a Par 50/1
    Boston Bob 33/1

Oh, there's also 50p on Man U to finish top 4 that I put on a few months ago.

It's not as productive this year as it was a couple of times ago though. The offers one year I was over £100 up before the race even started, and had bets riding on 30 of the 40 horses in the race (it was all matched bet offers so I went low risk/almost guaranteed profit).

EDIT: £15 up already, they've refunded the place stake on all my GN bets in the form of bonus money.

I think most National Hunt jockeys except an elite few don't get paid enough so that's why you get so many unnecessary equine fatalities, a lot of the lower echelon jockeys are under immense pressure to get placed in races to the detriment of their safety and that of the horses. Aintree is definitely a lot safer than it was but it's sad to see the deaths this week
