Now its clear that Newcastle are focusing their transfer efforts on the continent and having secured the signatures of Tiote and Ben Arfa last season this seems like a sensible thing to do.

Enrique is still sitting on the fence with regards to his move away and Newcastle will no doubt be lining up a replacement just in case. I personally feel confident that the players we bring in will be up to scratch and those who leave will be replaced. The reason for my confidence is entirely down to one man: William Graham Carr!

I tried finding out when he joined us (thinking it was under Hughton) which leads me to ask the question: has he made a single bad signing so far?

The only one I can think of is Perch, but in such a thin squad with few resources, a player who can play (debatably) anywhere accross the back 4 and in CDM is a good call.

Can you think of any others?

I thought Calderwood was the main instigator behind the Perch signing.

He is Alan Carr's dad and he lives in the Forest Hall area of Newcastle, my wifes uncle who used to be a scout is friends with him.
Surprisingly enough doesn't see him very often.

Keep up the good work GC

He's doing a cracking job. But the thing which worries me is this willingness to lose what we've got and think this guy can just replace them with quality and all will be good. It's nonsense. Jose's situation may be out of control due to his quality and desire to establish himself in the Spanish squad. I have no problem with him going. But if we then lose Barton, and those two departures upset the apple cart it doesn't matter how good this guy is, he can't replace the team unity. I hope we see sense and give Barton his reduced contract. As I say Jose is a different situation entirely and cannot be helped in many ways. Certainly wouldn't hold it against him if he left to better himself.

Alan Carr - who'd have thought it!

I think Pancake did exactly what we needed him to do, act as a bit of support and get the odd appearance now and then. He was never signed to be a first team player.

Seems like a quality scout, I'm suprised Liverpool arnt trying to sign him, so they can sign his recommendations directly....

In response to op question I can't think of any that have flopped, Perch was more calderwood and was merely bought as a squad player in january to make sure we got promoted...

However a scout will make some mistakes(usually down to the plauers attitude, which he was not aware of) so lets hope they are not big ones, in the future!
