Laudrup has recently said he has "no idea" if Danny Graham is staying or not and doubts whether the player knows either. I may be reading too much into that but could it be that DG is keeping his options open and waiting to see how we do in the Cup? None of the clubs who are in for him will get anywhere near Europe this season whereas we have a chance. As recently posted on this forum the bonuses we offer are huge for any sort of success so there's that to consider as well. Could it be that there's a lot more at stake tomorrow than meets the eye or are we resigned to losing Graham anyway and Cup success has nothing to do with whether he stays or not? Just a thought.
Of course he's biding his time. I don't blame him to be honest. In fact maybe Kenwynne Jones is doing the same on the other side of the fence
There is also the factor that we're playing against Sunderland next weekend. I doubt Laudrup want's to see Graham on the other side of the pitch so soon. If we qualify for Europe, it will be nice to see what kind of players we attract...
well if we beat you next week we'll be just as near as you, not that we will (qualify for Europe that is) but our up coming fixture list is quite favourable and starting to hit a bit of form. Any idea about this Polo fan as (Cardiff)he recons Graham is on his way as we speak, itk (pinch of salt) Does Carling cup winners qualify??
It's the age old conundrum. Play for cash or glory. How many more chances will DG honestly have before his careers out? Surely the bigger bucks will be there at the end of the season ...... but the chance for the prodigal son to return to Newcastle and save their season is a different type of glory that may be difficult to resist!
You may be right swim. Yes, Carling Cup winners qualify for a European spot. I wasn't referring to our Premiership campaign. Can't see Sunderland making it but we're in with a shout of getting 7th or 8th I suppose. Who knows? It is still tight.
At best 7th has an outside chance of the Europa dependant on the cup winners this year. Only the winner of the league cup qualify, it's not like the FA cup where it goes to the runner up if the winner is already in Europe. .....We definately have no chance in the fair play league this year!
I hope he says he will stay now as he has had enough time to think about his situation after his talk with sir mike. I hope it was just an initial reaction because he would not be playing every game that he said he wanted to leave, Maybe now he realizes he will be better off where he is rather than take a chance of playing elsewhere where he may not fit in......He is a valuable member of the squad and i think he will play more times than he thinks he will......hope he stays...
We only want players who are 100% committed to the Club. If his head is being swayed by outside factors he should be shown the door - that applies to any player.
