    Liverpool have set standards.
The first English side to be back-to-back European Champions.
The only English side to win European trophies 3 season running.1976,1977 and 1978.
The only English side to get to KEEP the European Cup,which is for teams that have won it FIVE TIMES.
The only standard Man United have set is being the only English side to have a manager sacked for screwing the physios wife.Tommy ''Mary Brown'' Docherty 1977.
Liverpool fans knew about it before Man United fans,as they serenaded Tommy Doc aka ''The Golfer'',(He was known as the golfer because he had more clubs than Nick Faldo) with ''Who's up Mary Brown'' in the 1977/1978 season.

So Man Utd didn't set the standard for English teams to start winning the European Cup?

So Man United have set the standard for competing in the European Cup.
Actually they didn't.That was Wolves who did it first.
Before you say Man United are the first team to win a treble, wrong again. Before you say Man United won ''The Treble''.
    Man United won ''A Treble''.
''The Treble'' amongst English sides is the Domestic treble.Which has been achieved by nobody.Man United won a dometic double and the European Cup which constitutes ''a treble.''.However,there is no differece to that and the one Liverpool the first side to do so in 1984 won.Liverpool won a domestic double and the European Cup.

Where did I say Man Utd set the standard for competing in the European Cup? I said they set the standard as the first English club to win it. Also Wolves were the 2nd English team to compete in the European Cup you fool. They entered in 1959. The first was Utd while Hibs were the 1st British side to enter. <doh> You really do let yourself down.

Fair enough swarbs, at least you aint got that blinkered view, the actual scissoring action (lmao) happened well inside the area, thats when the foul took place.

As for the real v barca, United chelsea goes the same as if they were home and away prem ties, exact same type of game, no different, so.. saying that we can assume the spanish game of even more intense, significantly more intense rivalry based not in football only, will go as the league ties do. Goals then Real got thumped already so they'll be tight and counter if they can that is while Barca change their game plan little no matter who they play, they try to score as many goals as possible abnd press the fk outa the opposition when they dont have the ball to get it back, honestly if this was the philosophy employed throughout football we the fans wouldbe far better off

You can't attack Barcelona openly or put 10 men behind the ball.Either way you're going to get killed. You have to use another way.Man United in 2008 and Liverpool in 2007 did it to perfection at the Nou Camp. The only way to beat them is okay let them have the ball but only in areas they can't hurt you. When they they give it away, hit them hard.Even if Man United get to the final,I don't think they will be able to do this,as the key for them in 2008 was Hargreaves, and he can hardly walk.If United get to the final,a repeat of 2009 is on the cards.
