A popular player with most fans. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18837403 Maxi Rodriguez leaves Liverpool for Newell's Old Boys in Argentina Maxi Rodriguez has left Liverpool after two and a half years to return to his former club Newell's Old Boys in Argentina. Midfielder Rodriguez, 31, arrived at Anfield from Atletico Madrid in January 2010, and scored 17 goals in 73 appearances for the Reds. "I'm returning home with a suitcase full of great memories," said Rodriguez in an open letter to fans published on Liverpool's official website. "Thanks a lot for your support." Rodriguez had one year remaining on his contract, but Liverpool have not revealed whether there was a fee involved in his return to south America. But his departure is a setback for manager Brendan Rodgers, who was keen to keep the Argentina international at the club. Rodriguez, who began his career at Newell's Old Boys, only featured sporadically for Liverpool last season, scoring six times in 21 appearances in all competitons. "Before signing for Liverpool, I just saw the club as one of the greatest institutions in football," added Roriguez in his open letter. "After my time here I can confirm that this is not just a great club, but also a great family. "I have tried to give everything every day that I was wearing the LFC crest. It has been a great honour to defend this shirt during two and a half years." A statement on Liverpool's website read: "Everyone at Liverpool FC would like to thank Maxi for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best for the future."
good for him, nice to go do a statement and i wish him well... all nice guys are wished well but i am for one at least glad kuyt and him are gone and i look forward to some pace out wide now. sterling has yet another guy moved out of his way. It makes it super critical we only go buy a quality player now. 4-3-3 = suarez - borini- downing/sterling for now up front..... Need one more player of genuine quality to join that 3..... thats my opinion anyway. reina johnson skertl agger enrique Gerrard Lucas Adam Suarez Borini Downing doni, coates, kelly, sterling, henderson, shelvey, carroll..... thats our lot right now..... lets hope we see some more signings soon. if we are taking carroll huge lose he must be replaced on the bench, retire carragher to 4th choice and get him into a coaching role.... bring in sterling, help shelvey and henderson by resting gerrard for them in europa at minimum. we'll see what we do next
Maxi played well, scored some goals, but was never first choice of rafa or Kenny. Sometimes he went missing and shied away from a 50/50. Even so, he had great technique and was willing for the reds. YNWA
God luck to him. It took him a while to get going then he was really good! One of the few players in our squad who could actually put the ball in the net. Good stuff!
i remember when he scored that goal for Argentina in a world cup knockout match in 2006 against Mexico to win the tie 2-1...that is when he came into my knowledge due to the skill of that finish..a nice guy of football

never ceases to amaze how some guys characters can really be seen how they leave a club... we've had alonso, garcia, maxi, babel, risse, rieira. they all did more or less the same and left on good terms... mascherano on the other hand and torres didn't. we saw suarez leaving ajax an absolute hero..... contrast to the moeny grubbers like owen or neasri or adebayor or sol campbell etc... It'd be interesting to watch a club like roma and see if borini is lauded as he leaves there.... contrast to how carroll, despite saying he didn't want to go and getting his club a huger 35mil fee is hated in newcastle... hmmmmm bearing thinking about more i guess.
