Paul Jewell has hinted in his exclusive interview with Ipswich Player that we could go back to having seven subs next year. Everyone knows I've been bitching about having only five subs so this is great news to me. It means space on the bench for more specialist players, like an out and out defensive midfielder (Hyam), or for a young player like Byron Lawrence. I always felt it hindered team selection and development to only have five subs. Now if we find ourselves 3-0 up with twenty minutes to go we can throw the likes of Byron on and give him precious game time, something which is crucial for a players development. He also said that he was looking to have a first team squad of twenty players. He wants to be in a position where making a substitution will not lower the quality of the team, so is looking for players who will not weaken the team coming off the bench. He said a few good things during the interview and is trying to make the right noises but it remains to be seen what he actually manages to achieve during the transfer window.
it sounds good and he has admitted where he went wrong last summer. Hopefully he can put both together and come up with the goods
Tactically inept... We'll never get anywhere near promotion next season with Jewell (Or more importantly, Clegg, the Puppet-Master...)
