Buy Football Memorabilia on Ebay The 22-year-old England international endured a difficult first year at Anfield following his £16million switch from boyhood club Sunderland. However, Rodgers believes it was always going to take time for Henderson to settle and is convinced he will prove to be a success with the Reds. âI look at the young kid Jordan Henderson who got a wee bit of stick last year but do you know what, this is a boy who was 21 years of age,â said Rodgers. âI thought when I first saw him at Sunderland that this kid is going to be a really good player. Heâs then coming out here for a bucket-load of money, coming to a massive club and massive expectation. âHe moves away from home, he is on his own and he has to be a world beater straight away. It was never going to happen. âBut this kid can play football. If he is in a certain system â in an environment which is going to help him and educate him in the game â you will see that.â Henderson, who scored twice in 48 appearances last season, is still on leave following England duty at Euro 2012 but is due to meet up with the Reds squad in Boston on July 23. Rodgers is looking forward to getting to work with him having received rave reports after the youngsterâs application. âThe biggest thing for me that Iâve heard about Jordan is his attitude. He has got an incredible attitude,â he said
i think rodgers just said what the majority of LFC fans have said. those who just savage the kid ignore the will to improve and work he's got... this is the type of statement rodgers should be making.. positive ones.. unlike the carroll one where saying nothing would have been better.
As I said in another thread, I feel Henderson could do very well in this new system, and I'd like to see him, and Shelvey, given a chance before we sign some one new to play that role.
personally i think we should move heaven and earth to get javi martinez.... shelvey and henderson can play as frankly gerrard's legs are going to fial again and there'll be plenty of time... if anything i'd rather see us sell adam and buy someone in
Hendo is the type of player who, like Terry mcDermott many years ago, we'd buy and put into the reserves for a couple of seasons. because of his fee and high profile though, it was determined to lob him in straight away and all the pressure that goes with it. he may come good (hopefully), he may not, but already in his first season the two things I like about hime are that he has (like Terry Mc of old) a fantastic engine AND HE NEVER HIDES AND ALWAYS WANTS TO SUPPORT THE MAN ON THE BALL. The last bit being utterly essential in a team playing pass-and-move. I think he'll thrive, eventually, under Brendan, but the big fee has made some people want instant results. Look how long Fellaini took to produce his best across the park: that's the problem - everyone wants INSTANT success nowadays. In the old days of the 70's and 80's we had a successful team that newcommers tended to blend into slowly. Now they're expected to save a mediocre team overnight.
I rate Henderson as well - ticks all of the boxes for me. And I agree about the blending the newcommers in slowly - unfortunately we dont have the first team that performs week in week out so it adds pressure on the youngsters because we're expecting them to improve the team instantly.
I said in the long run he could turn out to be Dalglish's best signing (in his recent spell as manager).
