I have just been watching, almost with my eyes bulging out of my head, at the scenes from Tottenham. It's happening on what was my doorstep for a few years, following the shooting a few days ago that happened on the doorstep of a very good friend of mine so I know the area inside out - as well as Ipswich people know The Cornhill and Norwich people know the market.

What the rioting has reminded me of is the evil, the hatred, the watching your back at every moment that dominates living in that area and it's reminded me where I come from - one of the most warm, friendly and wonderful places in the world.

I know it's not perfect, but my god it's a long way from the hell on Earth that is going on tonight.

When it boils down to it we are both two sides of the same coin.

For that reason I wish Norwich every success this season in their efforts to keep the top flight football up until we can join you, fingers crossed we will both be there for the 2012-13 season.

Hampy - sad sights indeed! I lived in London through the second half of the sixties right up until the end of the seventies, working in the City, throughout the IRA bombings, so I know exactly what you mean!

Back to matters in hand, thank you for your good wishes, I know that we'll probably struggle, but we'll give it a damned good shot!

You certainly hit the ground running yesterday, keep that up and it will definitely be us that has to survive for us to re-start the 'old farm' derby next year!

Good luck with that, but please don't expect us not to enjoy ribbing you during the present campaign! ;)

Wow! Everything just got real! Cheers Hampy, we'll be alright I reckon but I'm not expecting champions league or anything .... (or am I...?)

Anyways just waking up to see the rioting in north London. Mental scenes.

You'd certainly not see scenes like that around here. I would say even at a derby game. Our rivalry is one of the fiercest in the country just purely geographically. A large area of England that only has two football teams. However, it isn't rooted in anything as crass and boring as religious hatred or racism. It's rooted in banter and bragging rights and being able to take the piss at the opposing teams results to your work mates on a Monday morning. That's the way a rivalry SHOULD be.

As much as I hate to admit it, we will miss the derby this year. In league one we had the whole Colchester thing to keep us going but we'll most likely have to do without this year which is a shame.

A premier league old farm derby would be amazing. But we'll see eh...

Hampy, you're right. Sometimes we forget just how lucky we are to call this bit of the country home. It's difficult to really take in what happened last night, let's hope there's not a follow up in the coming days.

City and Town have got a special sort of rivalry, I think, one that those outside of our clubs don't really get.
Obviously I'll always want us to beat you, and I'll always want us to finish above you, but I genuinely do wish Town all the best for the coming season. Looks like you got off to the best possible start.
I hope it's the beginning of the sort of season, and the type of football you deserve.

    Cheers Yorky.

Those twats who rioted have done nothing to help themselves or their local area, looting businesses and burning peoples cars people they might know. The guy who died was a gangster and armed with gun which he shot at a police officer with it's simple you shoot a cop your ****ed.

In inner city areas there is a lot of frustrated people, who are annoyed with how life in general has turned out for them. I wish some people would get out of the negative mindset they live in and actually do something about it. I agree a lot of people have it difficult growing up with **** parents, in bad areas with little aspirations for the future, there are always ways out I know people who have moved from crime ridden estates, who have broken vicious family circles where you don't end up in prison or in coffin it's about having some focus and pride.

Actually - the guardian thinks the bullet that hit the policeman was a police bullet and not fired by the dead guy so if that proves to be true it'll only get worse - it's spread to Brixton tonight as well I'm hearing.

I have a friend, a young lady on her own, who is terrified tonight in Enfield.

The Police Complaints Commission will establish the facts, I heard earlier there was a rumour the police executed the guy are people that stupid enough to believe those types of rumours? It wouldn't surprise me if Edmonton will get a mention, not a brilliant part of North London in my opinion. If it kicks off in South London it'll be similar to what you get in Paris, but we don't treat people like **** and banish them right to outskirts of their cities like they do there with no infrastructure.

I hope your mates and her property is alright.

Watching the horrible events in Tottenham makes me realise how lucky I am to be living in the beautiful university City of Cambridge. It only takes an hour down the M11 to Tottenham Hale and Seven Sisters and I do that journey on a regular basis. I think I will use the train next time!

With you on that one JWM.

My daughter moved to Cambridge from North London, I'd never been so happy.

I honestly hope both Norwich and Ipswich get relegated this season. Two frightfully deluded and desperately egotistical clubs, whose horrific fan bases, deserve nothing but failure for the bad karma they sow on their turnip farms masquerading as stadiums.

Up the soul of East Anglian football - the mighty blue and white stripes of Colchester United.<bubbly>

Could this be the main contender for 'visitor of the month' award? <yikes>

And the prize for 'visitor of the month' post is a bottle of Hellmans mayonnaise, to drizzle over that chip on his shoulder.

You're almost right when you say Colly is the soul of East Anglia - just missed out the R.

Anyway, isn't your ground on an old field on the outskirts of Ipswich? Mind you, at least the lack of noise on the inside is supplemented by the roaring traffic on the A12.

I agree - post of the season so far!!!

Colu, please do not leave it so long between posts on here, you really crack me up <ok>

Keep those predictions coming fella, we fed ourselves to promotion on them for the last 2 seasons <laugh>

I better add - watch out for your manager leaving this week off the back of a good away win on the opening day again <ok>
