Hello gents, need a bit of advice if you please. Heading down your way to the Empire for a show in a few weeks and need a watering hole or two for beforehand. Are there any rock bars still left there? I remember Baroque but heard that became a wine bar. Also heard Savannah changed to a rock bar called the Hive then changed back. Confused. Can anyone shed any light please?

    Your loving neighbour,
    Steviemac

Not a rock bar per se but Paddy Whacks imo is the best bar in town and often have live bands on stage.

There are a few bars that put bands on (you could check the Sunderland Echo online for details). However, I would be surprised if any are on stage before the show starts at The Empire. I would recommend Fitzgeralds or the Lambton Worm for a pre-show drink. No bands, but a great secection of beers, including real ale, if like me you are into that sort of thing. Also both bars are located on Green Terrace which is just a few minutes walk from The Empire.
